Thinking out loud here. We were originally scheduled to return around 9pm on Tues, leaving most folks to run home on Weds anyway. In the 2-day scenario, why not fish all day on Day 2 and return at 6 am Weds? That way we are only losing 2/3 of a day, not a full day, and everyone is home Weds evening anyhow.

My vote is for Option 1A: 2-day trip returning Weds 6:00 AM. I'm good with Option 1 or 3 also.

And no apologies are necessary. I really appreciate all the work you've put into this trip and know I will enjoy it no matter what form it takes. Thanks a bunch!

@ this time, I'm thinking of pulling the plug,

 No hard feelings,

I can feel the work that Pal has put into this and his disapointment in it not going quite right,

A Big Thank You to Pal for making this happen.... :smt006

A few changes have happened for me also, so it would be best for me to not go @ this time

 Thanks .............. Danglin

This is a great option and we are looking into it.

My vote is for the 2 day trip with La Jolla appetizer.  The following weekend may well conflict with folks thanksgiving plans and the later the trip occurs the more likely it is for the weather to be AFU.

Vote update.

I count 4 public votes for the 2-day trip plus 2 more via PM.

For shifting to the following weekend, I have 1 PM vote and 3 public votes.

Notably but not at all surprising for tight-knit NCKA, 3 of the latter posted a secondary vote to go with the shorter trip if it would be better for the group. I was a liberal arts major, but that looks like half of those signed up are in favor of the 2-day format. Adding the two who are easing out of the trip, the trend toward the 2-day scenario is clear.

Several people who signed up cannot shift to a later trip. In fairness to them, I'd like to go with Option 1A, a 2.5-day trip departing the evening of Sun Nov 11 and returning Weds Nov 14 at 6 am. For folks who'd like to fish 3 full days in warm, southern waters, I'm looking into an optional group campsite for Sat Nov 10. Then we can get our fish on Sunday am at La Jolla.

Let's keep the vote open for another day, until Tues evening. I think everyone here wants to go with the option that's best for the group as a whole, in spite of personal inconvenience. Also, thank-you for your understanding. It is above and beyond.

Is there an update on the negotiations with the Islander? Before I retired, I used a "count-down" clock to mark the time till freedom. Well, now I found a new use for it--this trip! Am I eager or what??? :smt003

Thanks everyone for your patience - and a special thanks to Big J for her continued enthusiasm! I feel the same way Janice.

I've been calling the Islander multiple times / day, still with no call-back. It is frustrating but not unusual given the time of year. Please hang with me just a few more days. There isn't much else we can do until we renegotiate the trip as a 2.5 day. I'm looking for a discount to allay our collective inconvenience. For the boat the extra evening amounts to about 9 more hours of crew pay and maybe a bit more cereal and coffee. Once I have the new price I'll post up, ask everyone who has sent a deposit to reconfirm, and then move on to the wait list.
