ISLANDER TRIP ISSUES PLEASE READ
« on: August 17, 2007, 11:05:25 am »
PAL got an apologetic from the folks that run the Islander last night.  The trip before ours is having major hassles with Mexican permitting for Guadalupe Island which will delay their return a day.

As I understand it we have 2 options...leave a day later (11/11) and make it a 2 day or leave the following Friday (11/16) and keep it a 3 day.  I would love to keep it a 3-day, but I know others may be locked in etc.  Sorry for the hassle, but it was out of everyones control and not predictable.  Mexican permitting is a new issue that has been dogging the SD sport fleet this year.

If you need to bail, we completely understand and PAL will return your deposit.  Again...sorry.

Not to sound like a jerk or anything,  :smt003 But since this might free up a spot or two can you please add my name to the waitlist?

Thanks.

Oh man that sucks.  :smt013  I am supposed to go to Shanghai on the 19th or 20th so the next week does not work for me for a 3-day.  Is there any chance to still make a 3-day and just leave a day later returning Wed. instead of Tue.?  I am withholding my vote for now but if I had to vote now it would be for two days as I can not risk my job for three days fishing.  Argggggggggg.  What is the discount if we go for two days instead?

Can't return Weds.  The discount for a 2 day would be about a third less, as its by the day.  I wish it wasn't so as well, lots of folks had made plans, myself included.

Thanks.  Sorry for the tone.  I know you have no control  :smt009 .  Two days are better than none.  Maybe an extra day fishing in La Jolla.  I will wait and see what the group decides and vote for two days.

Sean -

Man that sucks :smt013. I am supposed to be coming in from a business trip from New Hampshire on Friday. I could try to come in on Thursday but it is going to be challenging. 2 days is OK if that is what others want but 3 days is so much better. I will try to make it work either way but you need to let me know in the next week so I can change my business trip if needed.

I would have to vote for a 2 day trip unless we could just extend our trip one day? Better yet, have the trip before ours reschedule. Since they didn't have their $hit together I see no reason it should change our plans. I cannot get any other time off. Looks like I better stop buying supplies until we know for sure.
I know it is not the fault of Sean or PAL. It just irritates the hell out of me when someone elses situation affects me. Maybe we could have a fishing get-together somewhere on Saturday. Turn it into one big fishing pre-party before we all get on the boat.

Well its not really the Islander's fault either...if you've ever tried to get a permit here, imagine the same process in Mexico.

I actually think what they are trying to do is a good goal, just lacking a little execution at the moment.  Not that were any better, just got my passport for the vacation that was over a month ago...Doh!

Ouch! My first thought is three days, ok, but a really long drive for only two days! My second thought is people have already started to arrange schedules and gear up because they committed to the dates allready set and although the next weekend can work for me I would rather hold fast to what was agreed and not lose those that did commit. I think the Islander should too. If there is a push or shove it should take place with the other trip not this one- maybe my view is simplistic and I don't understand, but.... not a good start on their part.
Having said that I believe my attitude will be fine going ahead and I know we will all still have a great time. With mixed feelings I have voted for 2 days.

Hi Yakers and FisherPersons:

Sorry to hear of the Cortez Banks Glitch but, it sounds like a trip of a life time. A few days at the Banks fishing is better than a good day in the Bay Area!
Too bad the  Banks are still 100 Miles and,  a 12 Hr. trip! I would most likely chum because of the travel time. :smt005
