Any campsites close by? Im going solo and can camp anywhere "stealth-style" in my pick up, rather not spend $$ on a room for a few hours but more than happy to share $ for a site or if someone knows a "stealth" spot. Will bring 6 string and beer.

Veteran's Memorial Park in Monterey has a small no reservation needed campground, its probably only 2 miles from MBK.

Here is a little more info on it

Campsite facilities
The Park has 40 campsites, 30 of which can accommodate trailers. Hikers and bikers (non-motorized) are welcome. Each site has a table and a fire pit for cooking and campfires. Water can be obtained from faucets located in the camping area. Restrooms and showers are available. The site capacity limit is two vehicles and eight people per campsite. The maximum length of stay is three consecutive days. Vehicles are limited to 21 feet. Vehicles longer than 21 feet will be referred elsewhere.

Fees
The camping fee per night is $20.00 for the first vehicle in a site and $5.00 for one additional vehicle. For hikers and bikers (non-motorized) the fee is $5.00 per person per night. If you have a Golden Age/Access Passport, you are entitled to a $5 discount for a campsite or $2 off in the hiker area.

Reservations
Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.

The closest would probably be the Monterey Fairgrounds. Not sure if they allow tents though…I usually see RVs there while I play golf at Monterey Pines (don't get a site adjacent to Hole 10…I think that’s number 10? Lots of wayward slices…D'OH!).

For some reason, there are more RV parks than actual campgrounds in this area. Like the Marina Dunes RV park. And the Moss Landing RV park. There are a couple RV parks in Carmel Valley too.

For tent camping, there is Veteran's Memorial Park, as noted by Rob. http://www.monterey.org/rec/vetspark.html This is probably the best bet. About 10-15 minutes from MBK.
There is also Laguna Seca on HWY 68. They definitely allow tent camping: http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/laguna_seca.htm Just make sure there isn't some big event going on! Well, actually, that might be fun.

There is a nice campground that allows tents up in Watsonville at Sunset Beach. That’s about 30 minutes from MBK. There are also some beach camping sites in the Santa Cruz area like Rio Del Mar/Seacliff.
And there are a ton of campgrounds in Big Sur (both private and county/state) but that’s about 45 minutes from MBK (including Andrew Molera and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park). Same goes for Fremont Peak campground in San Juan Bautista (tents allowed but sort of far away).

There is also the possibility of sleeping in your car if you just park in front of one of the many beaches here, like at Monastery beach in Carmel. Or Marina beach in Marina.

Shoot, maybe I should just start taking reservations for tent camping in my backyard! HA!

I might be able to grab a site at Veterans Memorial on Sat morning if you're worried about a full campground. But it'll cost ya...2 beers! [and NO, smirnoff ice does NOT count as beer Mooch!]

But, then again, if you roll out on Friday, you can fish Saturday too!

I'm coming down Saturday morning, and I'll be in my van, so if anyone wants to split a site I'm in. Don't know where I'm going to be unless someone pipes up with a site they want to share. Playin it by ear....

Jonesz
PM me if you want to share a site, and I'll give you my number so we can coordinate.

This looks like the spot to stay: http://www.monterey.org/rec/vetspark.html
I'll try to cruise up there Friday night to see if any kayakers are there yet. Because I'm hoping to pre-fish on Saturday.

Looks like first come first served at the closest campground. I'm heading straight down after I get off duty and try and secure a spot before heading out to prefish and scope things out. Mooch, I don't know what time your heading down, (I'm figuring I'll get there around 9-9:30ish)  but if you get there before I do, go ahead and get a spot and let me know on the cell. I'll try giving you a ring when I'm in the area.
