One way to steal a locked kayak
« on: July 29, 2007, 09:53:03 am »
Steal the car its locked to.

Woke up this morning to find that sometime overnight my car was stolen.  Both of my kayaks were on the car, locked to it.

If any of you guys combing craigslist and other classifieds for kayaks could keep an eye out, it would be appreciated tremendously.

One kayak was a yellow P13, no readily identifiable qualities to it other than being fully rigged to fish.

The second kayak was a yellow/green T160, double hatch.  Also fully rigged to fish.

If anyone sees something, please PM me so I can inform the po po.

Thanks
Nate

Send this info to paddler.net. I believe they are a storehouse of stolen kayak info. Also check to see if you have the serial number which is carved on the stern, if not check with the place you got it. I keep the serial #'s for all the malibus I sell, it's a surefire way of proving the boat is yours. That's a bummer man, If you find them before the cops do get creative.

Nate, bad news...West Oakland is near where I work so I'll cruise through there just in case they decided to dump the yaks.  I figure if they just wanted the car the yaks would attract too much attention.  If they try to sell the yaks we'll be able to track them down.

Nate that sucks that is a beautiful kayak. We will all be looking for it.

Nate,
That T160 is very unique and should be easy to spot on C-list/ebay or the water.
Ive had WW kayaks stolen and hate that violated feeling. Had one boat stolen that we all called "the coffin" because it was near impossible to get out of. I still allow myself a smile thinking about the thief missing his roll, headed for a strainer, and realizing that the stolen boat was cursed and would be his undoing.
Maybe the landlord will have a special moment with this criminal, plus im sure there is a very cold and lonely corner in hell for kayak thieves.
ill keep a watch out for it.
go easy

Bummer Nate.  :smt013

Call the kayak shops in the area as well, just in case they try to sell it there.

Sorry to hear this news, Nate. I've placed your post on the listserves for both of the local kayak clubs (Bay Area Sea Kayakers [BASK] and Western Sea Kayakers [WSK]) so they, too, can keep their eyes open.

They gave Dan one and he didn't even own one.
