It was a LONG drive for one day on the water PAL and myself have been working on another trip in Mid-November to target big yellows offshore at Cortez Bank.  If were going to go there, it seemed like lots of folks would like to spend some more money and get more time on the water...WE AGREE. We need 18 hardy soles to make it a go.

2 days is two FULL dark to dark days of fishing
3 days is three FULL dark to dark days of fishing

Plus you could fish off of the boat at night once we get there.  Motoring out and back would happen as we slept, like last time.  Trying to gauge serious interest, let us know if you want more!

I'd be down to go again so long as I leave a couple of bunks bucks in the bank for christmas gifts...otherwise Omar will revolt.  He don't play that.

2 days is two FULL dark to dark days of fishing
3 days is two FULL dark to dark days of fishing

So the three day trip puts you onto fishing grounds that are further out? Or is that a typo?

Scott

Cut and paste booboo.  The place we are planning to go is OUT there.  100% pelagic...no land mass in sight, just a big offshore reef.  It is shallow and sometimes provides big wave surfing.  Imagine Mavericks but 60 miles offshore. Going during the calm season but still NOT the best choice for newbies.

The Cortez bank is out there about 110 miles offshore. It's a magnet for yellows, white seabass, and get this guys... yellowfin and bluefin tuna. November is prime time weather and water wise. This is a one of a kind mothership trip.

With more days we could fish multiple locations such as San Nicholas, Santa Barbara or San Clemente Islands. We'd have the utmost in flexibility, and have the big boat to fall back on. In addition to running the best mothership on the west coast, the Islander crew are all first-rate offshore hunters.

Here's another incentive. It will be lobster season - there are big ones on the Bank and at San Nic.

I think I'll be due for anther trip come November.  I love the idea of yakking  it that far out!  and I love the Islander, after a tuna trip on her last year.  2 or 3 day is fine with me.  Can we get more proposed details, like travel time, $$, gear suggested?

Can't say no to the Islander.

3 days is my vote.  Might even want to try my hand at spear fishing given that amount of time.

I've always lusted after a long range tuna trip, but after the Unfinished Business trip, I wonder whether I'd go stir crazy being on a boat for that long.  Gotta love the Mother Ship trips to give you the ability to stretch out a bit, do your own thing.

Can we ensure Mooch doesn't have a working radio again?  That peace and quiet was niiiice...

Travel is overnight, most likely departing in the evening and waking on the fishing grounds. Any moves would take place in the evening. This format maximizes fishing time. Gear - simple, at least one 20 to 30 lb outfit such as a Penn Jigmaster (save the Corvalus for calicos  :smt001), maybe a high speed reel such as a Daiwa Sealine XHA for irons, and a 3rd rig for smaller stuff. Your standard 'yak arsenal.
