A great tool to have.......

with all the survival stories I keep hearing about....the sat phone would be a great tool to have (or even to rent)

....The guy who had to cut his arm off when he went off rock climbing by himself would have been better off bringing one of these instead of his video recorder (or digital camera) and his Ipod...

....when visiting foreign countries

......I think every outdoor recreational guide should have one of these / did you guys hear about the Kayak Guide in La Jolla who took a family out for a whale watching trip and ended up needing a rescue? He did had no form of communication  :smt018

....The guys in the true to life movie "Touching the Void" should have had a sat phone handy.

And even though most of us practice safety when out kayak fishing....I think everyone should invest in a communication device like a VHF or even better =  a sat phone. I may consider getting one in the future. Besides the kayak camping trips I'd like to do next year. I also do a few moutain bike trips around the Bay Area (where cell phones do not work) and also do my backpacking trips up in the sierras.

GPS are good to have but if you are disabled (falling hard off a bike, turn your ankle on a hike, or losing (or breaking) your paddle when kayaking........your GPS will do you no good.

I also believe that this tool should be used by anyone who does "solo" trips.

just my 2 cents...

BE SAFE THIS YEAR!
