Got an Inquiry on the O-ring use and how to get them to work with the senko.
Here is a pic of all things needed:

I use: #8 fluro-carb leader@3ft.
SPRO swivels (super strong and tiny/ones in this pic are rated for 35lbs.) so it won't get hung on               vegetation on the way down to the bottom.
         Finesse W.G. weedless hooks
O-rings small & lrg./ yellow O-ring roll-over thingy  were purchased at shop.(have seen simular ones around)
7" senkos are heavy and can be fished at 30+ft. like a jig or flipped into the weeds and tullies.
5" are lighter, but just as or even deadlier.

If you look at the Yellow thingy, there is a 5" half-way inside it,on the tip is a sm.O-ring that will roll up the thingy and be placed at the center/middle of senko.(i think a FAT pen case-half will work the same).

Toss near weeds and shoreline, let sink to the bottom...wait, then reel in slack-line, ..wait, pick-up rod tip slowly then drop it back down a few times.....if one is there it will hit it on the drop or when it lays motionless.

Keep an eye on the line, where it is touching the waters surface. Sometimes they will slurp and swim off.
If you use the same hooks as in pic. NO NEED TO SET THE HOOK!   just a up-swing and good presure should be enough to drive the hook into its lip/mouth.

GRN Pumpkin and Watermelon (anything DARK) have paid off on the 7"
Rootbeer or Cinnamon in the 4" or 5" have been productive when the 7" was not.

Be very patient and it will pay.   It has for me and I didn't even know what I was doing!

Thanks Adam, that's a great bit of info on the rig you've been using.  I need to get me a AOTY LMB bigger than the punny 15"er I now have and this might just be the ticket.

Thanks for the info Adam.

Do you think those small dental type rubber bands that they sell at the tackleshops would work?  I would think they would work fine but I have no experience with it.  Or is there some advantage to the O-rings?

Adam, thanks for the wacky lesson!
I've tried it without the bands and ripped up too many senkos. I'm going to give your excellent advise a try.

Steve ~ don't BEAT my puny 19" I've got, until I can SIZE UP too! :smt013

Alex ~ after the worm hits the water/WEEDS, let it fall as FREELY/ naturally as possible, try not too stop any line from peeling off the spool, I watch the line-bow from the tip to the water, and pull line from spool so that there is less amount of resistance on the WIGGLY action going down. If you feel that it should have dropped down deeper than in did? it might have got WEDGED/STUCK or just hung, give it a little tiny tug and be ready for it to fall (don't lock bail til everything is settled, OR.....YOU SEE THE LINE TWITCH FUNNY on its way down) if you see it twitch, give it a few seconds, then swing it!

Angel ~ give em a try! double-up if you have to. The RINGS are TOUGH! I've never had one break/split.
the bigger one measures (outside dia.) just under 1/2"

Al ~  I remember LESSON DAY, you said that you didn't like pulling weeds off it all day when riggin WACKY.
My biggest has come from the way you taught me, and is deployed still. It's just something about the DIFFERENT LOOK / ACTION of it?!

Only been WACKY during my YakHuntin days (1.5 yrs.)   and by no means or measures a MASTER at it, YET!
just givin back to my PEEPs for da' cause!    :smt002

You can get the O-rings at Kragen.  They come in a bag with a green card.  Very cheap.  You can also use these same O-rings to make nymph indicators with polypropolene (sp?) yarn for those who bobicator fish.

Tight lines!

I think I'm missing something.  How is the hook installed in the worm?  Is the hook ran into the worm beneith the o-ring? Or is the hook run between the o-ring and the worms surface?(not into the worm) Aprox. how big are the o-rings?  I have a huge supply of various sized 0-rings available to me at a jobsite. just need to put on the darn "bunny suit" (fab suit) to enter the fab to get them.

jptroy, you got it on the "between" and the sizes i'm not sure. The Lrg. ones fit only the 7"ers, fat as your pinky finger-tip, (outside dia.) just under 1/2"

The smaller ones fit ALL the smaller sized senkos. you will save (x10) the amount of torn senkos going wacky and rings.
That "yellow thingy" is the only way to get the rings to the CENTER of the senkos without tearing them up.
THEY WORK GOOD, the senko slides up the leader and out of the way usually.
hope this helps, if not, ask again!

Adam,

Yea, having a Senko break in two is the pits.  :smt013

Love using them and have always had bigguns' suck them up the wacky way.

I fished that exact rig for awhile and while it works great, I had a few fish get gut hooked, and also had a few of missed hookups, (probably trying to set the hook too early to avoid more guthooks).

Switching to a Mustad 3/0 weedless hook (W3369A), rigged thru one end gave me more hookups, always right in the corner of their mouths for easy release.

Rigged that way it sinks the same, but you have the option of darting/dragging it over the tops of weedbeds, I got a lot of strikes that way, and no weed hangups.

Of course you go thru more senkos that way, but I'd rather have that than be stuck with a dead bass I gotta eat.

No pro here....but I believe the RING gives it more action, and YOU WILL SAVE on TORN senkos BIG TIME!
