Unfortunately, not all guides are as good as you. Maybe you should teach him how to do it right, since you're the PRO.

Hmmm,

My guess is that he was distracted by the bikini in the lime green SOT.  :smt002

That's pretty sad. At the very least, he could have rolled to avoid the collision with his body. Do you have any "after" shots?

As funny as it was, I didn't get any follow-up shots. I rushed into the water to help because his clock was cleaned pretty good. I should add That nacho was one of my assistant guides at Aqua-adventures, San Diego and is now an alaska state kayak ranger.

We watched people with rental boats in LJ get BLASTED last time I was there with Chef.  There was an 8-10 foot swell and the rentals guys were sending them to certain death.  Great show though...me and Chef sat on the wall after getting skunked and got ready for lunch, but we couldn't leave!

Ooof. To that I say, "bummer, dude."

I try to stay far away from big bunches like that.
But geez, I WOULD like to try being an Alaska kayak ranger someday...

randy, good eye!

there is nothing, repeat nothing dorkier in the entire world, than somebody in the surf in a plastic boat wearing a helmet!

Well John, even at the risk of being confrontational yet again :) I still have to say that winding up in a persistent vegetative state because you got whacked in the head by a board/kayak/rock during a dedicated kayak surfing session while not wearing a helmet would be even dorkier. But that's just my not really all that humble opinion.

There was an incredibly nice guy that owned Baidarka Boats up in Sitka. We rented 'yaks from him for two weeks, and he went out of his way to help us  with transporting the boats and our gear to the end of the road, thus saving us a good couple hours of schlepping and paddling. He also showed generosity in some other ways, further cementing my opinion of him truly being an all around good human being.  Three months late he died from head injuries sustained while sea kayaking. Right there in the harbor. Due to the circumstances involved, I re-evaluated the risks, and have come to the conclusion that if I am participating in a kayaking activity that will result in my spending a lot of my time with my head submerged or possibly colliding with hard objects, that I'm going to wear a helmet. YMMV

Regards,
Scott

....not to hi-jack this thread....but I used hate to wearing a helmet when mountain biking or snowboarding...but as I got older, I realized that if wanted to continue enjoying such activites, I'd have to put a bucket over my head  :smt002

Stay safe my friends - life is short enough :smt001
