Another option would be to install the google toolbar which contains its own pop-up blocker.

Thanks guys.  If install Firefox do I need to do any other configuration type stuff, or will it just work?  I am serious about the Mac...between the web and video editing limitations I am SICK of PC lameness.

I'm in the IT business, and while I do not support desktop users, I do see our IT departments email on key issues. DO NOT UPGRADE TO IE7 WHEN WINDOWS UPDATE REQUESTS TO DO SO !!!!  Users that have gone to IE7 are having all sorts of issues

I use Firefox exclusively, except for two websites that will not work with anything but IE on a PC.

Regards,
Scott

There is a setting at: Tools>Internet options>Privacy where you can enable the pop-up blocker with the checkbox at the bottom.

I agree with the general sentiment here though, stay away from IE7 for awhile. My wife made that mistake and I've had to fool around with her settings a few times to iron out the kinks. BTW, pay no attention to the mac/pc debate.

I have only two things to say on this subject:

You don't quit playing because you get old, you get old because you quit playing...

what would life be like without firefox?

ugly!

its hard to beat the new intel macs they can run windows when you need them to as welll as OS-X.

my kids and wife use firefox on linux for very few problems when browsing.

I am in the minority here, but I HATE firefox.

And, I have had zero problems with IE7, in fact it has been perfect.  I even ran it as beta for a long time.

My guess is that Scwafish inadvertantly got some malware in his system, and that it is not the fault of IE7.

For the record I am a big PC fan, and feel that the pluses outweigh the minuses.  Cheap powerful hardware, virtually infinate software options, amazing costomability.  What's not to like?  Keep up on security updates and run a couple of malware detecting programs once in a while and your golden.

Mac will attract me when they get cheaper and get some software.

Mol,

You have good points but forgot one huge minus.  The head ache factor.  It is way smaller for Mac.  And, now that I have Firefox (last 2-3 months) internet is easy and no pop ups.

I update my securrity software everday, and did a system scan and found no malwear or virus.  IE was OK, but once I updated it was RIDICULOUS.

After a day of no pop-ups with Firefox, I deleted IE off my PC.  Can't wait til July to get a Mac.  Fire fox is Kale Certified
