Did anyone notice that Joel's PFD is twisted in this this picture?  Look closely next to that fine stringer of fish he's carrying.   :smt016

Who loves you Joel?   :smt007

First of all JTF,

I just point out that it seemed to me that there were 4 stripers caught.  If I did not point out that fact.  maybe, someone reading this broad would think it is OK to keep 4 stripers. Also, you called it bickering.  Maybe you should run this board.

Way to get out there and fill the stringers guys, even with the weather being as potentially sketchy as it was this weekend!  Nice pics of the bald eagle, too.

well said Scott...but some people just feel the urge to put someone down simply because of jealousy...kinda "childish" I think.

Anyway, here's some of my pics....by the way, I've also been criticized of trying to be the "big man" of the board - simply because I like to post pics of myself and others with big stringers when I post reports....if any of you find that to be "offensive" - just don't read my posts = end of story. (Maybe I should just keep a photo album in my truck and show it off whenever I can  :smt002)

Anyway, here's one of the rainbows (19.5 inches) I caught with a "mystic floater" - a small shallow diving crankbait that looks like a little minnow. Seeing that Edsel had earlier success with the rainbows at the shallow side of the lake, I spent a couple of hours trolling the area and was able to hook 5 but only landed 3 (forgot my net :smt013) Thanks for the tip Edsel  :smt002

This striper (C&R) was caught trolling a rapala right along a steep bank.

Mooch, Thanks for the trout. They went to a local Cambodian family who run a donut shop here in town. That's right free donuts:} Glad to see the lure you used saves me a phone call. Frank

It is 2 statewide as far as I know

There are some lakes with higher limits for stripers such as New Hogan's Lake:

For most fly fishers this is a top water Striper fishery. It is best in the warmer months of July through September. August is a prime time month on New Hogan. Here you need a boat with an outboard motor to fish this larger open body of water. At any time from daylight till dark you can see schools of Stripers chasing schools of tiny Threadfin Shad to the surface. It is very exciting fishing but it is not real easy catching for most. It is something you need to see for yourself because it is as close to wild salt water fishing as you can get. Most normally go out in different areas on the lake and wait for the Stripers to start surfacing after the Shad. You then motor over in that direction shutting down and drifting to the outside edge of the school and then casting into it with a larger tropical floating line and a small light colored Shad imitation. The fish run 3 to 6 pounds and seem to be stunted. Some fish get bigger but most are in this size range. The limit is 10 fish and it is a great place to keep and kill fish to eat. You are actually helping out the situation and these fish are very 'clean' not being subject to the agricultural pollution of the Delta and river fish. The North and South Fork of the Calaveras River flow into New Hogan.

Indeed.  Here are the special striper limits:

Quote
5.75. Striped Bass.
(a) Open season: All year except for closures
listed in special regulations.
(b) Minimum size: 18 inches total length except
in waters listed in (d) below.
(c) Limit: Two, except in waters listed in (d)
below.
(d) Exceptions to general minimum size and
bag limits:
(1) In the Colorado River District, the
Southern District (except Lake Elsinore
which will have a limit of two and a minimum
size of 18 inches total length), and New
Hogan, San Antonio and Santa Margarita
lakes.
(A) Limit: Ten.
(B) Minimum size: No size limit.

Diddly Dang DFG with their convoluted rules.  Note to self: Always re-read the regs for each species targeted...

BARELY HOOKED!

IMO: for live bait fishing, I prefer using this hook (with a ring) made by Gamakatsu....

Yo Mooch,

What size is that hook?  It looks a little big IMO, but that is just me.  Do they make it with a red coating?

Is that a palomar?
