I came across this site while researching big baits for lings and rockfish.  These guys have some HUGE fish!  Looks like a lot of the pics are taken out of shelter cove.  Check it out!

Some of the rockfish they have pictured look kinda like yelloweyes.  There is an inturesting one that is red with black vertical stripes.  Looks like some of the pics might be in alaska.

Some of the huge vermillions and lings they said were out of shelter cove.  I think one of the lings was 52lbs and one of the vermillions was 13 pounds.

I looked it up in an online gazeteer... there are at least 6 "Shelter cove"s in Alaska.

Okay, I was thinking those fish looked a little big to be norcal.

That ocean doesn't look like NorCal water that's for sure (except maybe in January with an Alaskan storm blowing in). Not water I'd be fshing my kayak in to often.

Did you notice the size of those swimbaits? We're talking 12" or so.

The captions say Shelter cove CA
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I think those are from Shelter Cove, CA.  Just look at the pictures from this website.

He's obviously got a few "nice" spots for lings, halibut and rockies....and the weather can be rough if you head a ways north from there.

Interesting, I wonder why no kayak anglers have scored like that there (as far as I know). Many its just due to the much larger number of boats compared to kayakers. Or maybe the closest well-known point of interest to the actual fishing grounds is SHelter Cove and they are miles away up the Lost Coast.

I was thinking the same thing.  I bet you they have a hot spot miles up the coast somewhere.

The state record for california halibut is 58 pounds.

Those fish do not look like california halibut to me, but I guess there could be pacifics this far south....
