I usually fish on weekends, and my curbside garbage pickup isn't until friday morning. So if i bag a carcass & toss it in the trash it has the better part of a week to , uh, age I guess is an appropriate term. I usually use a double paper bag to prevent spine puctures, and then double bag that in eco-plastic trash bags. Anyway, I'm sure my trash pickup guys still hate me during the summer.
How do the rest of ya'll get rid of carcasses? I could take 'em to the harbor cleaning station I guess, but in the summer it gets packed with tourists and if I fish north of SC its a royal pain to drive there..
Anyone got ideas? There are too many coyotes & raccoons at my place to bury the carcasses, so I'm not sure what to do. What I need is a fishy crematory I guess.

Mmmmm ... sinigang soup ... mm mmm good.

You should see the look of disappointment on my dad's face when I tell him I caught some nice fish but didn't keep the heads for  him.

My mother is a French caterer and she also always wants the heads and carcasses for soup and broth.  I guess it is not just an asian thing.  When I can not get them to her in a timely manner, I double wrap them and drop them in the nearest public trash can (supermarket, gas station, local park etc.)

You need to get a very large saltwater aquarium and stock it with about a half dozen or so just legal dungeness crabs.  Toss your fish carcasses into the tank to feed your crabs and watch them molt and grow all year long. Right before crab season opens, harvest your now jumbo crabs.  Be sure to get some small replacement crabs during crabbing season.

Alternatively, it seems you could move to a neighborhood already stocked with Filipinos and/or french caterers.  Toss your fish carcasses to your neighbors and watch their kids grow.

If I have five or less fish I burry them in my compost.

Sounds nasty, but it disposes of them just fine.

I chuck them down a creek gully behind my house.  The local raccoons and possums worship me.

Seems crappy to me to throw away something so biodegradeable.  With the salmon gone our countryside needs more fish carcasses tossed about.  ;)
