OK.......it's not a fishing hole where you bring a yak.....you can either hike it or ride to with your mountain bike......quarter mile distance from sidewalk parking.

WATERDOG POND in Belmont. I have caught BIG bass and BIG Bluegills in this pond. I even caught a shad in there as well. If you ever want to introduce a young one to the sport of fishing = this is the place!

DO NOT KEEP / EAT ANY FISH from this pond.  :smt018 My buddy did and he got sick within hours! (he woke up at 2AM and started blowing chunks  :smt078 )

THIS IS CLASSIFIED INFO.  :smt066

I wanted to introduce our little one to "fishing". I wanted an easy place where we could get some "action", so I figured this location would be a good start. We arrived there at 10 am and tried hard ... but got nothing!

Luckily we had a blast Kayaking around the lake with the dogs and our day was saved!

The hike up the hill with the kayak (Hobboie Outback) was very doable. Dog friendly place, but NO fish!
I'll let you guys know once I find a good place for kids.

Cheers,
C-

what did you use for fishing? Got any pics of the lake?

That's pretty hardcore that you managed to wheel a kayak up there.

Joel:
Can you let us know your setup?  I wanna take my 10 yr old daughter there.

The picture is Claire's first fish 2 years ago @ Capitola pier.  Btw, it was there that I saw a couple yakanglers for the first time coming in with a halibut that started the madness for me.

John,

Just a simple worm under a bobber....and more importantly, fish close to shore. Others make the mistake of casting far and in the middle of the pond. You want to fish on the drop - offs 3 to 4 feet away from the shoreline.

Let me know when you plan on going - I'll PM you my number.

I used worm+ small hook and light rod. Lot of people hiking there and we were told no one has seen any angler getting anything out of this lake.

There's still fish in that lake? I grew up a mile away and we used to go swimming there more than fishing. Wouldn't think of jumping in now. I remember there were always alot of bullfrogs so plenty of food for bass. Top water in the evenings was good sometimes too. You're right about the edges, you can see the fish right on the edges from the dirt road sometimes. You can get on the path from the top and bottom or run across the field at Ralston school, LOL...

Hard to believe that there's no more fish in this pond. It's got a healthy ecosystem and I never heard of this pond drying out completely. But my original post was back in 2004 and I haven't been there since...so who knows? Might just pay this place a visit sometime soon.

To be fair, I'm not a good reference and might not have done the right thing. Maybe it was not the right time of the day ... So please check this pond out for yourself if you're interested. Having said that I'm still interested on places I can bring our little one to have just some fun actions!

zelda if your little one can yak...palo alto harbor is loaded with rays/sharks. Hook ups take 2 min! Launch at the windsurf dock near low tide and they fish are stuck in the channels.
