To set up your anchor, you unclip from the stearn line (step 2) and feed the orange bunjee loop (step 3) - which is attached to your main anchor line. The bunjee also serves as a shock absorber for the swells. The current will allow the orange bunjee loop to slide back (step 3 and 4) to the stearn of the yak (you can do this on the bow too). When you want to release, just unclip (step 1 or step 6) and the bungee will slide off the yellow line (bow and strearn line) step 7.

To re-set, simply paddle the yak forward or backward (depending on where you set the anchor = bow or strearn) till you get hold of the yellow bow & stearn line - it floats.

Slam-in Mooch!

It makes sense and is relatively simple. Thanks much for the advice.

Hay Mooch, great article. I was wondering if there is any way of letting us know what ropes are used, what ones float and how do you tie those cool ends--knots, woven ends, ect. tell the truth are you a boy scout in disguise.

The yellow rope you can get a Orchards Supply or maybe even West Marine - I believe it's called Marine rope - It's hollow in the middle so you can easily stick a pen on the mid section of the rope to create a hole and you can push in the tag end into the hole and create a solid loop. I actually got this tip from Stuart.

I was in the Scouts...only because the girls were "digging" the uniform  :smt007  :smt002

Here is a link to a great article on making bowline:

I recommend 3/8in to 1/2in material for the bowline.

That plastic threading cap they mention is called a fid. Most boat stores carry them.

Mooch - Your anchor system looks very nice! How do you keep the line on the bouy from completely  unwinding? Is that a strap around it? MAybe a couple of half hitches would do? Just wondering.                                                           Also, the Liquid Logic web site has a cool anchor system installation video clip. http://www.liquidlogickayaks.com

Hey Mooch.  Either great minds think alike.... or you ripped off my no-nonsense quick release anchor rigging.  No wonder you had a camera in hand when you were checking out my rigging.:smt002

My anchor rig has a one major difference to Mooch's.  Instead of your orange bungee loop, I use a carabiner to quickly detach to the stearn line.  I also have a leash (slightly shorter than my stearn line) attach to the carabiner so I can retrieve my anchor line without having to release the stearn line.

Bottomline, our simple anchor rigging works better than anything I've seen out there, and best of all, there's no need to punch any holes in your boat to install pulleys and other contraptions.

I'd like to add a safety caveat that you don't have this rigged up if your punching surf or landing surf. I don't find it to be all that quick a release either when under tension and flummuxed by your rod going

bendo. The thumb release will stick and the rope hangs on the bite. you have to shake it loose half the time. Carabiners-- good thing there cheap because they won't hold up to saltwater without some

corrosion lock. I use locking cams from my kayak sail rig and like any boat should, keep the anchor feeding off the stern It's raining sideways now but I'll wait for a break and post pics of my superior rigging.

I'm going to be setting up some kind of anchor system soon for my prowler 15.

I know it hasn't been raining since January of last year so lets see your superior design ;)

The pics disappeared but I reposted them so if you scroll down you will see. This is what I use on my P15. VERY easy to set up and even easier to use. It is as simple and effective as it gets.

You can use the anchor buoy of your choice.

Mooch, what kind of line is your bow/stern line made of? How did you get a loop on the end without obvious knots?
