Hi all,
I am looking to buy a SOT kayak for fishing.  I currently use an inflatable kayak and fish mostly at Del Valle.  I live in an apartment on 3rd floor.  Is there anyone in the east bay or Livermore area that has any ideas for storing a kayak.  I am willing to pay for it.  I just need a place to store it that is secure.  I don't know about putting it in a 'real' storage facility- this could cost $50 plus a month.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Ben W.

I live in livermore also in a apartment and I just want to say if you get creative you can find places in a small apartment to hide a kayak I stash my fishNdive in a 2 broom apartment so dont let storage disuade you from getting a kayak.
Also there is storage in oakland but as far as I know thats about the closest.

I am going into the Kayak Hotel tomorrow - it's in Oakland near Jack London Sq.

I don't know if it's more or less secure than anywhere else, but i can't get my SPTW into my 12th floor apartment, nor can i store it in our underground garage, so I didn't really have a choice.

Kayak Hotel is $35/mo, they have a hose for washdown, a fridge, bathroom and shower, will let you keep a portable storage bin for your kayak stuff, and a have 2 loaner carts to borrow for when you wanna walk down the street and launch into the port.  It's not far from the Alameda Rock Wall.

Their racks might not fit a FnD...  You'll need to check that out.  Their number is 510-821-1500 and the guy's name is Michael.

I'll give a report back after I am in for a few days.

Hope you can find something williamsen!

Thanks KayakJames and cafecraig.  I cant get very creative in my apartment since I live on the third floor.  I might check out the kayak hotel.  $35 a month sounds doable, especially if I cancel my digital cable!  The last thing that I need is an excuse to sit on the couch.  The only thing I have to work out is if it is worth it to travel back and forth from Livermore to use the 'hotel'.  I work in Oakland, so maybe I can take care of it before and after work.  ????  I could pick it up after work on Fri. and leave it in my truck over the weekend.

Thanks again for the input.  I will call the kayak hotel.

If you store it on racked on your truck, make sure you cable lock it to your rack.  It is too tempting a target for vandals and thieves, IMO.
