Couldnt find anyone to do sturgeon tomorrow so Im going to the lake I grew up on... little lafayette.. In 1965 I moved to Lafayette and I used to sneek into "the pond" from my buds house just above on the hill.  Lost three rigs to the ebmud guys from age 12-15 and caught some of the biggest bass of my life in the process..  Havent fish it since I got back two years ago.  Gonna throw some plastic worms, some rapalas and maybe troll some flies.. If all else fails Im gonna dunk some Herring for catfish...
Should be at the office at 830 am.  Love some company

the friggen helicopter got us once... " Ranger Granger... " never forget that one...

lost another rig at Calaveras,,, awesome lake, still off limits...

Good times....  layfeyette should be good....

best of luck to ya and thanks for the nostalgia

Ya know a Zebco open face spinning reel and rod were probably 20 bucks.. My poor dad had to hear from the ranger the last two times I got caught and I had to work for the next rod... 13 brought my firstfly rod with a Pfueger reel.. Ah the clicker style drags .... useless

fact was back then you could catch all the fish you wanted with just about anything.....After it opened to the public the best bait was crawdad tails casted and drifted until they hit the bottom... Super large bluegill.....

Lafayette is one of my favorite place to fish for trout. I wish I can join you but I'm here at work again doing some OT. Good luck and catch some fish.

Not for me... I had 4 paper routes...

abu garcia 4400's/5500's and Fenwick Lunker sticks....  lost 3 of them to the Man... :cowboy_cool:  ouch....  :smt089

The most idiotic was Calaveras....

We Brazenly walked down to the reservoir, drinking... watched the ranger come across the lake in his skiff, casting for bass  watching him come.. ( LMB on every cast BTW... )

The Guy I'm with says, " Let's ditch the rods and tell him to go f#@#! himself... there's 2 of of us..."  I'm 17  and think this is a good idea.... :smt047

Ranger pulls up on his skiff... " Boys your trespassing... "

" So What!!! What are you going to do about it...!!!"   :smt052

He then tips the Sundowner glasses down his nose, reaches into the boat and pulls out a shotgun, points it at us and shouts to hit the dirt...  :smt103 :smt104

More Jackassness prevails as we now start running with him chasing after us... every time we look back he takes aim and tell us to hit the dirt..

by the time we get to the top of the hill we are both coughing up blood and now I need to drive out the long road out of there with no other routes....

we got out and he did find our rods as we went back later to no avail...

Ah Youth....

I guess this is turning into a " dumb illegal s.... i did as a kid " subject but I gotta beleive alot of us were crazy and slipped into closed waters some...  The kids here at the back end of Upper San Leandro are still doing it years later so time has not changed the  right of passage know as trespassing.  By 16 Briones just looked too good.. we would park our cars on the road.. run into the bushes and land on the lake.. got caught twice both times with the rods in the bushes as we approched the car... he was waiting there....heeeelllooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to learn the hard way that a fenwick rod and zebco reel cost a little more by then...
