Solution: park on the shopping center across the street  :smt045

*It's a short walk, you can grab breakfast at Dennys and grab a cup of white mocha at starbucks. On the way home, grab a meal at L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Life is good  :smt023
Like your thinkin' :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Now I'm hungry though :smt005

I also see it as supporting local economy  :smt002

By spending money at Denny's and Starbucks?  :smt003
Yes, while these buisnesses may be transnational/global, the employees are local.

So are Wal-Mart's.... most money spent in those establishments does not get re-circulated into the community.

Just sayin' and not preaching at all, 'cause I do probably 80% of my shopping at Wal-mart and Safeway!  :smt003

This actually made me think of Deaf Dog coffee. Not sure how wide-spread or popular they were, but there used to be one down the road from where I live. Their slogan was "friends don't let friends drink Starbucks".

They went out of business a few years ago and guess what's there now?

Btw-even my iPad autocompletes Starbucks. Scary.  :smt044

Yeah but l&l and denny's are both franchise operations.....still a chance the owner is local  :smt002

To further drive this thread off course I know a bmw owner that lives in los altos and drinks designer martini's while watching football games.  I do believe that he skips on the county park fees when he rides his bike down in the swamplands of palo alto.  Do audi's count too? I know of at least one anti-establishment lawyer type that I'm sure would park outside a gate and walk in just to thumb his nose at the man.  We should mob them both.

Back on topic, who do we cotact at the Coastal Commision to voice our opinions?  Probably the city of Pacifica also, if it did pass I'd probably spend more time and $ in Santa Cruz.

"The Western Snowy Plover breeds from Texas and Oklahoma west to California and up the coastline to Oregon and Washington, with the coastal form's primary breeding concentration in central and southern California.[2] The Pacific Coast population has been designated a Threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.

In many parts of the world, it had become difficult for this species to breed on beaches because of disturbance from the activities of humans or their animals. The University of California, Santa Barbara, is currently endeavoring to rehabilitate snowy plover populations by protecting beaches along the central California coastline that runs along part of the university campus.[3] UCSB has had some success in encouraging reproduction; the university also often trains students and other volunteers to watch over protected beaches during the daytime to ensure no one disturbs nesting grounds."

Isn't restoring the 'full' range and numbers of this crucial Threatened native species more important than the people's land use rights and the creation of another unnecessary tax/fee? Will no one defend the new parking tariff/tax in order to restore Lindamar Beach to it's rightful usage of 99% snowy plover habitat with two rangers to vigorously enforce exactly where you can launch your kayak or walk your surfboard to the water so as to not disturb a single fragile bird, egg, or nest? Does no one else have a guilty conscience and the need to pay fees that will be used against themselves and the rest of the general public. Cmon guys......Really??? We should all be willing to heavily sacrifice, pay the parking tariff, pay for any 'bird disturbance' related tickets, pay with harassment from Ranger Nazis who will be watching kayakfishers like chickenhawks, to make sure that ALL native species are restored on all public lands......irregardless of cost or consequence. Without a 'full' snowy plover population the world might truly come to an end this year.   :smt010

"Staff is recommending approval of a coastal development permit with special conditions for the installation of three parking meter ticket machines at the Pacifica State Beach parking lots and implementation of a parking fee program. The City of Pacifica Police Department reports that Pacifica State Beach is the most utilized beach in San Mateo County.1 The project site comprises two currently free (no charge) heavily-used parking lots (North lot and South lot), located immediately adjacent to Pacifica State Beach (also known as Linda Mar Beach) in the City of Pacifica. The City maintains that a fee program is necessary to continue to maintain the beach area. The revenue from the fee program would be used to hire two additional beach rangers and to maintain the beach area, parking lots, bathrooms, and showers. This includes clean-up and controls to assure rules and regulations are enforced regarding littering and trash on the beach. The parking fees would also pay for part-time police services. Collected fees also would be used for the City’s western snowy plover signage program which will be implemented to educate the public for the protection of these shorebirds at Pacifica State Beach. While the fee program would help to protect western snowy plover habitat and public access facilities by generating revenue for management and upkeep of Pacifica State Beach, as proposed, the development raises concerns about impacts to public access and lower cost recreational facilities. Most significant, the $6.00 fee would remove the free, general availability of public parking at this popular beach. In addition, potential impacts to vegetated coastal dunes also could result from foot traffic if there is a significant increase in the use of existing informal paths from other nearby parking areas to the beach in order to avoid the pay parking lot. An increase in informal foot paths over the dune could also develop."

City of Pacifica operates the beach......but California State Parks owns it.

PS: This is a done deal, the Commission has already ruled......and no...... it's not spring time yet Sonny.
