Aahhh tax time...being the Single guy with no dependents that I am, tax time is usually good to me.  With part of this years return, I'd like to buy a camper shell for my truck (07 Nissan Frontier).  I live in San Ramon, in the East bay.  Do any of you guys know a good place to buy one from?  I don't mind driving a little ways, I'll just turn it into a camper shell buying/fishing trip mission  :smt003  Just wondering.  Thanks fellas!

Jeff

PS, thanks Jim/Salty. and agarcia for the inspiration  :smt006

don't go to the REdwood  CIty branch -  you'll get better service at the South City branch

If you're lucky you can find a used one on craigslist.  Otherwise expect to pay a grand or more.

Always my first option  :smt003

Mine truck came with a Brahma shell.....its made of plastic and I had to make 1/2 starboard backing plates in order to feel comfortable mounting a rack and yak up top.  Get a fiberglass shell, preferrably one with a raised hump area in the rear or center.....makes it a ton easier to manuever around when you're sleeping back there.

edit.....damn, this one actually looks pretty nice...

Note you can get one painted pretty cheaply.  I was quoted a hundred bucks.

Good info guys, thanks.  Looks like buying a used one may be easier than I thought.  I don't mind forking over a little bit of money to get a quality new shell either, being able to sleep in the bed of my truck, out of the elements and being able to lock up my valuables when I'm camping/fishing/tailgating is priceless.  I'll keep an eye on Craigslist.  Thanks guys!

I have bene looking on Craigslist myself. Its hard for me though because I have a short bed and the year is sometimes the hard part. For me it seems like there is everything for 05 and older.

I've gotten a couple on craigslist with no complaints.  They might need some fixin but....  I just got a new work shell with flip up doors on all sides from campways in hayward, they are a bit pricey but are really nice when there new and you can get them exactly how you want em.  I think they have a store in concord too.

what ever you buy look for one with tandem lock handles.  the older single style units can be popped with little effort merely by pulling on them till they give way.  harder to do with the dual handle set up.  You may also want to look at two other features that come in handy, side openeing doors, and a slide out bed.  Nice to have items.

also, if you plan to sleep in the truck, the carpeted interior shells are much warmer and don't get the condensation problems of the unlined ones. Plus you can use velcro to attach small stuff to the sides.

Be careful buying used. Shells are made to fit specific truck beds these days. Make sure you measure your bed and shell.
