Jim

Everything will be fine and your baby will grow up and go to college as you and your wife have hoped for. The surgery is to correct the growth of the skull so it has a normal shape. The brain is usually not affected. PM me if you want to talk. Stanford is great. God bless you.

Sorry to hear Jim... I know things will turn out great. After all, I'm sure she's as tough (or tougher!) than her dad...the honey badger!

Just want to say thanks to all for your kind words, PMs or phonecalls...I really appreciate it...

Going back to the x-ray folks in Santa Cruz tomorrow, on 02/08 to the Lucille Packard Craniofacial Center to have the specialists review the films and discuss next steps, and then to the ENT specialist up there for her sleep apnea (which apparently may or not be related to what's going on with her skull) on 02/21.

Thanks again, and look forward to seeing you all on or in the water soon.

Sincerely,

Jim

Just want to say thanks again to everybody who reached out to send good vibes towards me and my family.

The craniofacial team at LPCH (saw 5 different docs in one day) concluded that even though her metopic suture closed prematurely, the rest of the sutures are open and as of right now there is no pressure on her brain or other abnormal skull growth that would warrant surgery on her skull.

 :smt001

They consider the ridge on her forehead benign, and it should smooth out and become less noticeable as she grows older.

Will be monitoring as she grows to make sure that stays true.

The ENT folks saw an iPhone video we took of one of her sleep apnea episodes, and put a camera on a tube up her nose and down her throat... :smt009

Turns out her adenoids (sp?) and so enlarged that they are blocking a significant amount of her nasal passages, causing her chronic congestion and sleep apnea problems.

Have her set for surgery on 3/19 to remove the enlarged mass and that should really help.

 :smt004

Both girls will be under general anesthesia that week (Jayme for her surgery and Valentina for some dental work) so I will be a nervous wreck until they are both finished and awake and smiling.

Feel very fortunate that we were able to get in to see all these specialists so quickly, and that the surgery she needs should really help her out.

Also feel lucky that I have been able to get out in the water and relieve stress and anxiety by diving and shooting fish, rather than how I used to do it (heavy drinking/partying to numb my pain and feelings).

Anyway, look forward to seeing you all on/in the water soon.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Good deal, glad to hear things are under control.  We went through the adnoids as well, my youngest had them taken out when he was 1 1/2.

The parenting books/classes I read and took did a great job at the basics (food, poop & sleep), but trying to figure out what is wrong with your child when they have no way of communicating back is one of the most challenging experiences a person can go through.
