D, I'm not a tax lawyer, and this post should not in any way be construed as tax advice. However, my office has garnished wages from defendants after a verdict and no one has been able to reduce the 25% so far.  Doesn't mean it can't be done, just haven't seen it.  You should contact legal aid services in your county or the local bar assn to see if there's a way to get a hearing based on hardship or other criteria.

I was gonna say the same thing...  25% actually sounds pretty lenient for the irs.  I seem to recall them taking more from me when I owed far less.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to a bankruptcy attorney first. They are usually cheaper and give free consults.
