I'd like to think any of us would have followed Rory's example. It shouldn't be taken for granted. His video has been viewed more than 500,000 times. Each one of those viewers saw kayak fishing portrayed in the best possible light.

Rory shared a few more details on the incident.

Quote
The heart-warming dimension of a deeply tragic story.

On Sunday, January 7, Sarasota, Florida resident Donna L. Chen was walking the family dog Barney, when she was struck and killed by a car driven by a drunken Blake C. Talman according to ABC Action News. Barney, frightened and bleeding, ran from the scene. A short while later, kayak angler Rory O'Connor was shocked to see the dog struggling over half a mile from shore. O'Connor scooped him up, then arranged with family to take Barney to the vet.

O'Connor's action camera captured the bizarre occurrence (scroll down for the video). Mainstream media quickly picked up on the emotional story. More than 500,000 people have watched the footage of a caring kayak angler coming to the rescue.

O'Connor graciously reached out to Kayak Angler from his home in the Pacific Northwest to share how the incident has affected him, his family, and how Barney is faring. - ed.

I don't know if this was posted already, but just read a story on why the dog was injured. The owner and the dog were hit by a drunk driver and the owner passed away here is the story.

Wow, just proves kayakers are good people.

When I was a kid I had a dog that would swim out to my boat in the lake where I was fishing if I left her at camp.  One time it was far enough she would never had made the round trip if I had not picked her up.  I never went without her again.
Regards

-Steve
