Hey, I just got a new speargun about a week ago and Im dying to take it out and give it a try. The swell report looks particularly good for Thursday and I was thinking that I might head down towards butterfly house to try my hand at spearing a few fish. Here is my deal, Im 28 years old, 180 lbs, I'm in pretty decent physical shape with good lungs, and I'm comfortable freediving to 50ft. The only spearfishing Ive done before was spearing lionfish in the caribbean with a hawaiin style polespear. Back in California, I am a fairly good abalone diver, going on my third season.
So does anyone want to pair up and show a newbie the ropes? My main concern about spearfishing is that I will shoot the wrong species of fish, an undersized fish, and/or something not worth eating. If I could go with someone who knew what they were doing who could help me identify fish and guide me towards things worth taking I'd be much obliged. Also, Its always best to have a buddy
Im good with diving from shore or I can bring my tarpon for a paddle out. Please PM me if your interested.
