Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Yep, a few fish from Stampede and now there are feature articles in WON and the Fish Sniffer too.

A great time to get into all the higher elevation lakes!   :smt006

What is the preferred method for trolling for Big Mac's? I have only jigged minnows in Tahoe for them.
Thanks

Jim, I tried jigging for the macks last weekend and didnt get a bite. Not that im a expert, but both of my fish were caught bottom bouncing/ trolling deep, like 100ft plus. John, caught his mack tho trolling in the upper 50ft range. Trolling seems to be the preferred way because u cover more ground and trolling along steep drop offs and high points is a plus! If theres macks where kokanee are, then trolling right beneath the schools of kokes will produce too. LongLining waayyy back behind your boat, like 200ft plus with plugs is a good way to get the macks that are hunting up high in the water column, but usually best done before the sun hits the water! I'm just using 40lb. braid and a 10ft section of 10-12lb. flouro topshot weighted by on 8oz ball weight on a Longliner or 3-way rig when bottom bouncing in 100-150ft of water at Tahoe! Works for me, the trick is to keep moving/paddling while letting your line out so your rig doesnt get tangled onto itself while letting out your line. This applies especially when using a dodger!...hope this helps bud, and have you gotten Blood on that new sick yak yet!!!?

Sweet thanks Ricci! Plan on hitting Tahoe Feb 9-12 and will try both deep jigging and trolling like you said. I need to get some fresh blood on the new kayak soon for sure. I'll post a hook-up if anyone is interested , we have an annual guys trip and this year I will be fishing off the kayak rather then paying Tahoe Sport Fishing. it will be cold I'm sure.
