I carry a handheld wifi/4g router in my pocket, runs 7 hrs on batteries.
How often and when/where do u make use of it the most? Just curious.  I love learning tech from geeks.

Wouldn't a smart phone in a dry bag work as a hot spot, provided you have the Data Plan that supports it?

Yep, any N capable router should work I would expect.

Found a link to some more details on this WiFi BacPac unit.

The good stuff!

The HD Hero2 can create its own Wi-Fi network, enabling long range video remote control via the Wi-Fi Remote or a smartphone, tablet, or computer running the free GoPro App.

So, that means you can hit the waves, slopes, trails or any other gnarly location with easier control from your wrist or even let a friend take care of the controls from a distance. We're told that it has a range of 100-300meters (110-330yards) depending on conditions and the BacPac also supports live streaming so your pals can watch your extreme action unfold in real-time.

Yeah, this is high on my list of things to get when it comes available.  I'm sure that many action film studios will try and get their grubby's on the first zillion of these out the door.

Well, I was going to keep it PG, but since you read my mind.   :smt002

I think with this WiFi Unit, and a Smartphone I won't need the LCD BacPac.  I could just use the phone to fine tune where the camera is aimed while kayak fishing.  Especially if the camera is mounted behind me, or way up in front of me.  Just start the GoPro App on the phone while in the seated position, and adjust as necessary.

Already have the waterproof phone.

Here's a short video of Folsom Lake taken from my kite. Looks best when viewed full screen 720 HD. Enjoy.

Andie and I visited the Bodega Bay Headlands before we joined the Crabfest on 1/29/12.  I had just enough wind to get my kite in the air. Took a walk towards the point and back to the launch area. Here's some of the pics.

Love the pics of the Bodega Head. The views are awesome out there. When Dan and I paddled out there on Saturday we saw people walking on the ridge.

Those are some awesome shots. I always wanted to try this. How far would you say it went up?

I really don't know. The spool has 500 feet of line, so I might have let out 1/4 - 1/3 of it. The height would change with the wind. One of  the most vertical and highest shots was the third photo. When I'm a little more comfortable with the rig I'll strap on my Garmin 500 bike GPS to measure the flight.

Measure the angle at maximum height and calculate (if angle is 30degrees at max height and line length=500ft then the go pro is 250ft in the air). Or you could ask one of the Hella Asian Crew  :smt044

Great photos!

I've only seen the the wifi backpack in demo videos. I look forward to seeing it in live action.
