WTG Joe, 6.0 JBL PoleSpear... My favorite harvesting tool. Glad you and Aaron made it out to enjoy the great conditions,   Hey I see you finally cleaned the lens, it looked kinda of dirty when we were at Albion. And Yes...the camera angle has improved.  Thanks for sharing the vid.

Hey Joe, I enjoyed watching your video!  I've fishing a long time and never seen or caught of those.

Hey Mel,
These eels are usually deep in the cracks, not sure if you can catch them from the top. Tasty too!

Nice job with the polespear, Joe. I used to use a polespear on eels, but sometimes it doesn't get enough acceleration and just pushes them out of the way with no penetration.

And yeah, they're usually holed up and shy, and they're primarily herbivorous, so it's tough to catch them angling from a yak. Poke poling and diving are pretty much the only ways to take them, though I've heard of guys catching them off boats, and saw someone on a skiff at Capitola bring one in.

Thought they ate a decent amount of crabs?  I always figured that the kelp in the gut was sorta bycatch for them?

I've never found anything but kelp in their guts, and according to the scientists they are herbivorous once they leave the juvenile stage.

As early juveniles, prey items are predominantly zooplankton. Adults prefer annual red and green algal species.

IMO they only bite the bait of poke polers cuz they live in a salad bar 24/7 and when somebody sticks a piece of squid in their face it is too tempting to resist!!

Actually....the first one I pointed out for Bloodbath to shoot was sharing a hole with a fat crab...they seemed to be buddies.

That is great footage to watch.  Am I the only one that strains his neck to look in the cave before the camera?  Love it.
