Best Restaurant in Fort Bragg Area any local secrets?

Piaci's Pizza is great, with good beer too.  The Wharf has good seafood, but it's a little expensive.  There's some other places down in the harbor that are OK, like Carine's and Herons.  I don't recommend Capt. Flints.  There's the North Coast Brewery for good pub food and beer........not awesome or anything.

There's a good Italian restaurant on Laurel Street called V'Canto.  There's 3 Chinese places, all of them OK, and a Thai place south of town called Viaporns that's OK as well.  And my favorite Mexican place is called Los Gallitos, in the center of town.

In general the eats in Fort Bragg are not as good as in the Bay Area, in my experience.  I save up my eating out money for when I go to the city.  Fort Bragg tries, but it's hicksville.

Upscale there is always the Mendocino Hotel restaurant. I have never eaten there but the reviews seem to be good.

Here is the current dinner menu.

Hi Yakers:

The best bet is The BoatYards' "Harvest Market" for takeout. "Dave's' Deli." is
a good Local Spot. "Jennies' Burgers" on the N. end of Town has good Burgers.
Stay away from the Takas' Sushi across from the B of A.
On the High end try" Albion Inn" has a killer View of Albion Harbor.
I'm spoiled by the low cost and quality of Bay Area Food. :smt005

We were just there last week and were unimpressed with the food.  We at at Mendo Bistro as our "nice" restaurant and found the dishes too heavy (too liberal use of fats in the soups and salads).  They also don't season the food.  I understand how some people might like that and allows the customer to season to their liking but some foods need to be seasoned during the cooking process to help draw out natural flavors.

Capt. Flints was so bad that after our fried seafood platters I had to drive to Jenny's Juicy burgers and order a burger to exorcise the bad juju (lack of) tastes from the Capt. Flint meal.  Fried seafood can only be made to taste that poorly through sheer determination and willful disregard for expiration dates.  I was joking with my wife that maybe they were clearing out old crab bait so the crab fishermen can use fresh bait.

Jenny's burgers were O.K.

Our best meals were a tie between the hot deli at Safeway and McDonalds, where for the money, my expectations were met.

Some of the pizza places and deli's may have been better but we didn't have that many meals there.

I work right across the street from Takas and eat there all the time.  I always thought it was good.....not fantastic but good.

For upscale, there's Ravenswood, Little River inn, and the Albion River Inn.  Good food, but too high priced for my tastes.

Yeah, I'm sorry to say that our area does not quite compare to the Bay Area.  It's understandable considering we have about 12,000 folks between Mendo and Fort Bragg, and the Bay area has what, 9 million?  Our folks try.......but there's ingredients you can't even get up here.

Of course you can get good brownies up here.  That's one ingredient that's always in supply here.........for better or worse  :smt002

Yeah, Captain Flints sucks.

Angel,  I should add that we chose Mendo Bistro because they claim to have won the crab cake contest so many times that the owner of the place is banned from competing.  My wife loves good crab cakes.  It turns out that they don't have any crab cakes because the crab season up there doesn't start until Dec. 15th.  So we were encouraged to learn that they only use locally sourced fresh crab to make their crab cakes which is admirable.  We had high hopes for the integrity of the food, but due to subpar execution the meal ended up being pretty"meh" for over $100.

Good eating on your trip,
Nate
