great thread...

from paddleing yrs and yrs with no seat in my ole pelican...I find my revo like a couch...  but the sliding of the seat is an issue...also have been unable to unscrew the seat after first day...so have just left it inplace...fear of cracking inserts has left me with wondering what the F???

I've been told to get rid of the screw (in) inserts because of a cracking issue...anyone know of this??? I guess the thickness of the material is the problem... if you over tighten possible hull crack...

Mike seems you have the opposite problem with the seat pegs than others here :smt012
I have not heard of the over  tightening cracking issue, but that would suck to wreck our new revos over a seat peg :smt013
I'm going to check out the Hobie repairs site to see if any other peeps are have our issues :smt002
Will report back if I find anything :smt002

There have been some cracking issues with the hobie seat peg holes found this on the customer suppurt forum
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/Roller-68/bighole.jpg

Here is how they recommend fixing/preventing the cracks

A 3/4" PVC end cap fits nicely over the the peg hole from inside the kayak.

Flip kayak upside down on a pair of saw horses so you can work on it. Pour some epoxy into the PVC cap. reach in through the center hatch, and put those over the seat plugs. The upside down boat lets gravity help keep the PVC caps in place until the epoxy dries.

Best glue is 3M Scotch weld dp8010. (others have used goop)

Once patched - no more problem.

I think we should do this to prevent future problems :smt002

I didn't see anything about the seat pegs getting stuck. sorry mike :smt012

As far as the seat pegs slipping the fixes included sanding the holes slightly  and wrapping the pegs with different types of tape.

 Hope this helped,

Thank you for sharing.  I'm on my way to Home Depot now to pick up caps.

I put the caps and goop on the seat peg posts in my Adventure a while back.  It was cheap and the ease of mind is worth it.  I read that is a hard place to get the plastic to flow.  With the caps even if it does crack it should stay sealed.  I sanded the posts and cleaned witg alcohol.  I used goop as that is what I had on hand and it has always worked well for me.  The caps are not deep enough to go all the way to the seat, but will cover about 3/4 of the post.

My seat seems to hold well.  Make sure there is no oil or protective grease on the post.  I cleaned mine with alcohol as it had some silicone grease on it when I got it.  Likely from the moving parts.

I use the stock seat in my adventure and find it comfortable.  I have enough natural padding to overcome the lack of seat thickness.  I think the seat is much better designed than my P13.  A gel seat would be cushy though.

Your really not alone here.  The stock Hobie seats suck.  My OB seat was no exception.  I replaced it with a summit GTS sport a few years ago.

Does the Summit seat have the pegs that go into the holes in the Hobie's hull?

This is a major concern for me too.  Before launch I take my fish bonker and apply an urging force to make sure the plugs are in good n tight. Even still they pull on occasion. Terrible design that does not function as hobie desired...

Wow, very interesting some owners have seat peg problems.  I added the pegs to mine about a year ago and never had a problem.

They fit good and stay in place all day.  For added insurance I am reinforcing the inside with PVC end caps.
