Poachers busted on the AR
« on: November 13, 2011, 06:30:14 pm »
My buddy called a warden friend of his last week to bust some (other nationality) guy. I'll just say they like caviar too.  It worked. He was fishing the wall. Bringing two fish at a time back to his car. The warden met my friend on the bridge. Scoped it out. When they headed back again to the car the warden asked to look in his car. This POS poacher had 16 or 18 fish in the car. I was told it is $1500 per fish over the limit. Don't know what the eventual fine will really be. I just saw that Adam called cal tip, but could not get anyone there fast enough. I guess it helps to have personal DFG friends to get fast action.

Sucks that it took a personal connection to get the poacher. But glad it happened.

Hell YES! Probably claim ignorance of the law, cant read English, starving family. DFG did a sting at the Ar where it dumps in at Folsom. A friend told me about it. Someone tipped DFG about a gill net strung across the river at the lake. DFG set up with cameras and waited. A ring of vietnamese set the nets and got busted. Cheers Rob!

Probably claim ignorance of the law, cant read English

It would be hard to claim ignorance of the law or not being able to read. If the limit is two fish and you are taking them in pairs back to your car. Seems pretty deceitful to me. How many times do you as a fisherman run fish back to your car? As for me its only when I am done fishing.

Whats sad is it will end up like every other poacher. A big fine that gets reduced, then they are back out there snagging fish.

MY point is Ryan, that they will use every excuse under the sun to avoid conviction man.

When you call Caltip do they give you an estimated arrival time of the Warden?

No, they don't. How about this next time? Once they have the info, ask to be transfered to the county sheriff? They have the authority to enforce Title 14 CCR. They would most likely respond faster, or, transfer the call. But if you make that big of stink, it better be something significant! Not a pinched barb with a little spur on the back bull pucky!
I only keep what we will eat, and release the rest as a gift to the next angler.

No argument here. I completely agree with you Craig and bet that's what they will do.

What the hell would anyone want with 18 of those beat up salmon all the way up at the wall? They look like crap that far upstream. Just think of the damage that dude does to our fishery all year long. Wonder how many stripers, steelhead, and fresh salmon that guy has poached?

I have nothing kind to say in regards to this poacher anymore, so as my momma always said I'd better not say anything at all

One warden could earn 10x his or her yearly pay in fines at Nimbus alone if they just stayed there.
I have called CalTip several times in the past for poaching at Nimbus and NEVER had anyone come out.
I think I quit fishing there over 20 years ago.
Cudos for someone finally going out and at least nailing one of those scumbags.

Forget courts, fines, and all that other BS, they should just chop one of his hands off and call it a day. See how many poacher's attention that gets.

And, yes, I am totally serious....

Can you imagine the super poaching capabilities you'd be giving them if they had a hook made for the stump?  Dude could just wade around free gaffing and be able to play it off like he was out for a swim :smt001
