Next time you are in the area of Crawford creek, ca. check out the river side of the area; it has scorpions, mt. kings and rattlers; oh, and decent steelheads.

Lot's of Turtles at Stevens Creek / Cupertino....I even caught one of 'em by mistake (caught soaking a nightcrawler) - I released it ASAP. I'll see if I can get close enough to get some pics next time.

SNAKES = they scare the hell out of me....I was stream fishing for trout at the creek above Steven's Creek a few years back. I was wading in knee-high water when I saw a snake drifting down current towards me....well, I screamed like a little girl :smt088 and was "running" on water...(ever see those lizards that run on top of water at the Discovery Channel)

Never seen a person run on water, so just a few questions:
What kind of waders will you do this with?
What is the best lure to troll with as you run to shore?

Mr. Mooch, I have to say my mind is racing right now, and the thoughts of all the people that had to experience your "apron". I am imagining Elk could see some of these miracles you speak of.  :angel4:

Basalisk(?) lizards. Mooch, that is funny. What if you had a nice fat 40 lb king on your line and suddenly noticed a small garter snake stowaway on board? Kodak moment or what?!

Guitarzan-

I love hunting reptiles, almost as good as fishing (not really)

I get to use a lot of the same skills though, knowledge of habits and habitat, food sources, seasons, etc.  Luck plays a big factor as well, just like in fishing for me.

My son and I go out almost every day to a little spot close by and we hunt. Garters, gophers, ringnecks, and once, a coastal mountain kingsnake.

We just got back from a week touring the Southwest where we got one chuckwalla and one greater short horned lizard.  We saw no snakes on the trip, though we looked.  If I can do this, here's some pix:

Son Max with a nice red-sided garter

We call this one Big Mama, we know where she lives and can visit her every day

Greater short horn from Oak Creek Canyon, AZ. This is a happy kid!

Me with the short horn. What a fatty!

This is a juvenile chuckwalla- he led us on a merry chase in Death Valley side canyon.

Hope the image process works .... If not, I'll re-try later.
