Support Strokes 2011 follow-up

Greetings Kayak Anglers – Support Strokes was last Saturday so please accept this in the “old news is good news” category…

1) Thanks to all who attended and pledged. You can still join the warm fuzzy pledge club: www.calkayak.com/supportstrokes/index.cfm?go=contribute

2) Participant numbers were about the same as last year, somewhere between 90 and 110 paddlers on the water for the three courses. This includes the great contingent of safety boaters. The number of new and relatively new paddlers was up considerably. Another 20+ folks provided wonderful on-land support.

3) Pledges have topped $20,000, pretty good in a recession year. Feel free to add to the total using the link above. The groups, especially Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic, are in great need of additional funds.

4) Due to the generosity of our supporters, nearly everyone won a prize in the participant’s raffle. Lunch from Scott’s was great as per usual. The t-shirt design drew great reviews.

5) You can also still support Support Strokes through the Big Raffle: you may purchase Support Strokes Big Raffle tickets for $5 for a chance to win a Current Designs Vision 135 kayak ($1199 value), a Hobie Mirage Sport pedal kayak ($1649 value), and a Starboard Atlas stand-up paddle board ($1399 value). Tickets may be purchased at CCK retail locations in Rancho Cordova and Oakland, or over the phone with a credit card. Winning tickets to be pulled after 600 sold - sometime in October probably. If you buy tickets and win, CCK will consider trading in the boat/board towards another or something more suitable to your particular wants/desires, such as a Coosa or a Pro Angler!  Therefore, no reason not to buy tickets!!
