Hey Al, which ball head did you buy?  I have a manfroto but it's way overkill for the go pro.
This one: http://www.amazon.com/Pedco-Ultramount-Universal-Ball-Head/dp/B000KNNRHA/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1314121963&sr=8-8

Really a great buy for anyone looking to make their own mount!  And its like a mini-RAM mount!   :smt007

Just an FYI - If you end up getting a battery bacpac or an LCD, the added bulk makes it difficult to mount the GoPro to the headstrap and the chesty. I took mine on a surf perching trip last week and didn't realize this until I was trying to attach it to the chesty. With the added bulk it was basically pointing towards my feet, so I flipped it upside down but still wasn't able to get the angle I wanted.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I have a Hobie Pro Angler which has side rails, I mount my Go-Pro to the right side rail with the handlebar mount.  This only works for fish that I catch on the right side of the yak though............

Yakattack has a couple of new mounts out now:

I ended up mounting it in what I thought was the ideal spot...
Learned a quick lesson on mounting gear on the kayak 101... Have all other gear previously mounted in place when attaching new items...
Conflict with my forward pole holder and fish finder...
Whoops....one sticky mount down, three to go.....

Mistake is plain to see after I applied the sticky mount and then tried to mount my Scotty pole holder....
So that spot will be for my cruising videos.....haha
