This years snow pack has forced my annual trout season opener to lower elevations.

I usually fish the North for of the Yuba River and its tributaries in the Downieville area.
From experience, I know that the creeks and rivers will be blown out for the opener. My backup has been the lakes in the Gold Lakes Basin, namely Lower Sardine lake and Gold Lake. Reports from the area say that Gold Lakes Road has yet to be plowed and isn't expected to be clear until mid May.

So, Me and about a dozed guys (friends and family) are headed to Bullards Bar Reservoir. From what I hear, the bass bite is just turning on, and the trout and kokanee are going strong.

I'll be camping at the Schoolhouse Campground, site 40D, the rest of the campground is empty as per the Marina.

The lake is yak friendly, there is a no wake zone by the dam. The canyon where the river comes in and the main creek are scenic and protected.
