Shogun's been my favorite fighter since I saw his first fight in Pride. I got Shogun by 2nd round TKO, but am in no way counting Jones out.

I haven't been this excited for a fight since Shogun's last fight...lol.

I'd say the experience & skill of a prime 2005 Shogun would win,... but things are too iffy with his multiple knee surgeries.  Shogun hasn't looked very impressive in the octagon... aside from his Machida fights.  A loss to Forrest & a very lackluster win against Coleman in which he gassed.  It's like BJ Penn, all depends what Shogun shows up tonight.

It'll be interesting to see how Jones reacts to Shogun's leg kicks, whether he tries to take it to the ground or stand, etc.

Toss up, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the momentum in Jones.  Huge test for both in completely different ways.  For a 23yr old, Jones has everything to gain & nothing to lose.

Hmm. I can't quote for some reason...

I agree that it depends on which Shogun shows up, but I've only seen a lackluster Shogun show up twice.

And I kinda disagree in that I think Shogun's shown SUPERB game planning in his last three fights, and looks to me to be the best Shogun ever.

You watchin' tonight, Fuzz?

Should be a great card. Lookin' forward to the return of Luiz Cane (Free on Spike!) and the UFC premiere of Urijah.

But last 3 fights were essentially one guy.  Machida, Machida... & Chuck Liddell, who has lost 5 out of last 6.

Definitely did great against Machida, who gave everyone else in division stylistic fits.

Just as one can't deny the athleticism & potential of Jones... I can't deny that Shogun has every tool necessary to destroy Jones.  Just a question if he's physically the same Shogun.  This fight should show a lot.

Doubt I'll get to watch, probably catch a recap somewhere.  ;)

I think I'm with Fuzz on this one. It was awesome to see Shogun take Machida apart (twice) when untill then he seamed invincible. Unfortunately Shogun isn't old but his body has seen alot of wear and tear.

I'm hoping Shogun can pull it off but I'm kinda afraid that youth may win this one.

Now if they gave him soccer kicks and face stomps it might be a different story.  :smt002

I didn't see it but it sounds like Jones tore him up pretty good. I'm totally bummed for Shogun. It's been pretty sad to see the dominant stars from Pride like Wanderlei, Shogun, Cro Cop and Fedor slowly fade away.  :smt012

I still think they are the shit and it's mostly the fact that they have fought so much and have been in such brutal wars that is finally catching up with them. All of the above plus Dan Henderson are my favorite fighters. They seem more humble and classy than the smack talking false bravado type that seems to be so prevalent in the UFC.

A sad night for me, for sure. I'm also a big Cro-Cop fan, but realized last night that he needs to hang 'em up.

Shogun got man-handled by Jones but I still think he can take any other LHW. It looked like an early knee might've broken some of his ribs and he was just shot after that.

Man, I can't modify my posts now either.

Was just gonna add that Jones is a BEAST and I can't see any LHW, or even many HW that can touch him.

Crocop hasn't looked good since he joined the UFC.  None of that killer instinct he had during Pride days.  I've thought he needed to retire for a couple years now...    Still a good fighter, but no longer part of the top tier.

Jones is a beast for sure.  One of these days, his unorthodox style may backfire on him and he'll get caught... after all, if GSP can get knocked out by Serra, anything can happen.   :smt005

Nevertheless, I admire the way Jones throws everything at his opponent.  No playing it safe & trying to grind out a safe decision, he gives it 100%.

Ya, CC fell off after winning the Pride OWGP. I just didn't want to believe it until Saturday night.

I still have hope for Fedor, though, and I know Shogun will be back. He just won't ever be champ again until Jones moves to HW....lol.
