The plastic one is, without peddles.

I tried fly fishing from a Hobbie. Even with the best line control  your  line will sooner or later find it's way to those pedals, when that happens it's pure hell.

Haven't seen that santa Cruz model before. Interesting. If it can reverse I am sold—lack of reverse is why i don't like the Hobie. Plus weight for car topping but i am getting a trailer this year now that the new house has acreage. speaking of moving, I need to get off lien and get back to packing or I'll be deeply negative in the WAF account.

This one can reverse, tho I have not tried one out so I can't give a review on it.    I do  have a native watercraft SOT and love it.

otobepelagic, sorry it took so long to get back to you. For some reason I'm not getting email notifications  for replies to my posts . Yes that beautifully made craft or that monstrosity as YOU put it, does have pedals. Good eyes. I didn't mean to imply or
B S any one ( once again as you put it.) . it was actually the brainchild the Raptor evolved from. Let me see if I can  make it clearer for you. I posted the images of it because I though it was beautiful work , I've never paddled  or peddled this craft. I had a hobbie Adventurer for several months, I'll never own a kayak with pedals again.  I would  never seriously recommend any yak with peddles  for fly fishing, I do seriously recommend  the plastic Raptor without pedals for any fly fishers that wants to cast a line from a kayak. Sorry for any confusion you may have suffered, otobepelagic.

As for pedals—fly line, and especially running line for shooting heads,  in wind always coils around anything protruding on the deck. Pedals would be a nightmare indeed. I created a small stripping platform from a piece of plastic sheet and tubing to contain my running line but it still has issues in significant wind.

The thing I might like about the Raptor is the lower wind profile maybe. I need to paddle one—I am concerned it's slow because of the width. My T-15 blows round a lot and that's frustrating when fly fishing unless I anchor and I like to move around probing structure. We need a small compact remote-control trolling motor for kayaks

  I'd like to be there too. !       I've got the remote, light weight trolling motor attached to mine.  You can see how this thing works up close and personal.  That combined with the lap skirt may be just the ticket you're thinking of S. M.     It is what I was looking for when I designed this boat.       When at the ARW Sunday I used that to move around the rock wall, up close controlling my drift in spite of the strong winds.   Foot controlled steering.  Fwd / reverse throttle.    Easy squezzee...

it's a trade off I struggle with:

Weight is a big issue: current motors and batteries are heavy, I like to paddle and it's an enjoyable and quiet workout and the lighter, the faster, the better for my choice of boat. Fast is important to cover water, chase down boils, for safety. I would not use the motor for traveling or trolling—just staying in place in the wind so an anchor is probably a better idea. I need to get inventive and take a submersible bilge pump and a directional device and use that as a trim thruster—that's what I really want. Attach a gyro and GPS and voila—high-tech stay in place. Yeah, as if...I can dream can't I?

Baitman, I'd like to learn more about your trolling motor set up but don't want to hijack this thread.  I'll start a thread on the subject.   So I'm new to kayaking and find fly fishing (casting or trolling) a frustrating experience from a yak.  It's a pain to hold position if there is any wind and I miss alot more than I land when trolling.  if I want to catch anything I beach the yak and shore fish.  Maybe a trolling motor is the ticket.
