Monterey MLPA Meetings 2/22-23

Two important meetings are on tap as the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) process continues to unfold at blinding speed. The MLPA will result in a network of Marine Protected Areas along the California Coast. Central California is first on the block. Members of the public are invited to view or listen to the meeting via Internet webcasting. Check here on the day of the meeting for more information.

Public participation: The public will be invited by the chair at several points in the meeting to offer comments on agenda items. General comments on the MLPA Initiative and the work of the Blue Ribbon Task Force will be taken at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23.


Meeting Objectives

Receive public comment on and discuss the draft master plan framework
Select the central coast study region and discuss the timetable and process for later developing a proposal for alternative networks of MPAs
Adopt a revised plan for stakeholder involvement at both the statewide and regional levels
Adopt an MLPA Initiative budget for fiscal year 2004-05
Receive expert and stakeholder input regarding the draft master plan framework and central coast study region designation
Receive public comment on items not on the agenda
