Hey Bill, There's a ton of fly fishermen that fish from yaks in the Northern Ca area. How about a fly fishing section?
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

If anyone is interested in having a seprate fly forum let me know in this thread. If there is enough interest I will set it up.

Sounds like a good idea.  Kayak4fish in Socal started one in early December and it seems to be well used.

 :smt006,
I'll participate in a fly fishing forum. My oldest brother ties for a few shops around the eugene, Or. area and I have had a fly pole since I was 13.
I think that I can reach some more water with the kayak as the banks of our local rivers are pretty brushy.
Today we head up river for some steelhead from the yak. Looked at the Pistol Rvr. yesterday, pretty low, looks like maybe the Chetco Rvr. is our best bet.
At this time I am looking for a fly called the ROGUE SPECIAL or a.k.a. GOLDEN ROGUE, if you know where I can locate this please post here or PM me.
 thanks, boxofrain in Brookings, Or.

Hey Boxofrain,
Go to this sight : http://www.danica.com/flytier/index.html And check out John Edwards. There's several versions rogue guess it depends on what colors you want.

I have never tried fly fishing, but it sounds like interesting reading.

I'd love to hear about fly fishing for lingcod.  It seems it's popular in Neah Bay, WA and I'd like to start doing down here.  I imagine though it's more of a spring thing from shore (when they're still shallow) and less of a kayak thing in the summer.

I've been flyfishing for bass since I've been flyfishing and I've always liped them.At the KC tournament last year I hooked a ling cod, when I brought it to the yak I almost liped it. I stoped inches from those teeth.I've made the boga grip a habit now for anything with a mouth big enough.

I would participate in a FF forum. On the rivers and lakes near where I live, that's about all I do. (For steelhead and assorted trout and chars.)

My trips to saltwater are rare enough, (and my family is hungry for the fish) that I usually get primitive and will use whatever works.

Up here, besides the lings, the black sea bass (rockfish) are popular on the fly. And some where in my books I have an old one that has a lot of info about FFing the surf on the west coast for surf perch. Haven't tried it, (yet) but it sounds like fun

Bill,

I am definately interested in a fly fishing section. I've been thinking of taking up fly flishing for awhile now and would love to have a place to run questions past someone with more experience than I.

I am a flyfisher. I spent much time harrassing the rock cod in Carmel with my trusty fly rod.
It is a ton of fun to throw a popper to busting fish. If you are out there and see me (blue tarpon 120) you are more than welcome to give it a shot. I think it would be great to see a newbie catch their first fish on the skinny rod.  I am less into throwing the big leadcore lines....it just isn't as much fun and I feel you might as well be using conventional gear, which I do when I want to go deeper. It's personal preference.

As to a separate section on the site - I would say why? As long as others don't mind seeing flyfishing topics and the amount of posts doesn't get too great and become an issue, I say it would be fun to hear non-flyfishers take on the sport. Heck, we might even get some folks to want to try it.

That's my two cents worth.
