  Okay, there are so many fish finders it'll make your head spin.  What is the difference between single and dual beam? Is dual beam more accurate or does it just mean more money? LOL  I like the humming bird PiranahMax 160 but Garmin also has a similar finder too called the Echo 150 around the same price range.
The 160 says water proof and the Echo 150 was water proof up to IPX7 LOL which I believe is 3feet. Does anybody know if these finders float if dropped in water or are they gonna sink.  I dont want to waste money so tell me what you guys think.  Thanks a bunch again!

I use an Eagle S/Map 250. I believe the S/Map 350 is the current model.

For myself, if I can see depth and structure I'm pretty happy. I like the built in GPS if for nothing else to know how fast I'm going  -- either for sensitive trolling speeds or just for the knowledge of how you're progressing against the tide/winds. Way points are nice for finding your way back to your launch or previous favorite spot.

My unit has been drenched in the salt several times and generally abused w/o a problem. I don't like the little pin connectors, but otherwise I think pretty highly of the unit. You can find hem on ebay for ~$180.

I started this sport with the idea that it was pretty minimalistic, which when compared to a PB may be true ... but the bill for gear just keeps growing. And once you're hooked, you just anti up like any other junkie for your next fix

the cheapest FF is the BEST one out there. = less than 100.00 and bomb proof = Eagle FishEasy240(or whatver number is on them now)  Hook1 should have them (or even WallyWorld/Target) then get a batt. that is designed for FF.

Anybody hear about the Humminbird Fishing Buddy?  It seems pretty good and has great reviews.  I was thinking about the 120 model, its portable and can go on different boats with ease.  Bonus is I dont have to cut into my kayak.

i have to ask you a question........have you ever seen one of those types of FF used on a Kayak? Does the review mention kayak use?

LOL Not exactly, it says can go on float tubes and small boats. Says clamp can go on uneven surfaces.  Yea there are a couple out there that have put on kayaks.  They seem to be happy with it.

there are better portables out there.....you dont want to be hanging things off your kayak(imo) there is one that "suction cups"

Yea after doing more research it seems its not that kayak friendly.  Thanks for the head check. LOL
Im probably the worlds worst handy man, just ask my wife. LOL So I hate operating on my kayak and thinking Im not doing right and possibly messing it up.

I fish out of a Malibu II XL.  I like but then again I don't know any different.  I have set mine up with a FF and 2 flush mount rod holders. I sit in the center seat. I mounted the FF on the bow side of the gaspi hatch.   I like having all the room so that I can lay my rods down and to keep my net in front of me.
I take my out in the ocean with no problem.
I don't have an anchor.  But I do use a drift sock.   This is great it really slows my drift down. 
I will take a picture of my set up later today if it ever stops raining.
