Mystery critter
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:32:08 pm »
Caught this animal on the pig cam. At first I thought fox. Having looked at it longer I'm starting to think something more feline? What do you guys think? It's the back legs that have me thinking...
Plenty of pigs on the camera. I was in the thick of them this morning and missed two close shots. I was shaking pretty hard at the time of the shots!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

That's a tough call the back thigh look really large like a cougar so does the head. because of the blur its hard to tell. The legs on a red for are very dark. Not on this pic. On a gray fox they are lite in color. I would think its a cougar. The size of it looks larger than a fox would be and not so fragile looking and the way it is moving look cat like.

I wonder how big the pigs are for some comparison. A Grey fox 15lbs max, red fox 22lbs and I don't believe its a Red it would have black legs. A female Cougar 140 max male 220 max. Data from Wiki. Could it be a coyote?

OK don't laugh! The very first thing I thought of was a Caracal. Quite a few people are getting them and I'm sure they get out.

Way cool shots Juan. It's cool no matter what that animal is. Trail/Game cam pictures could be a sport all on it's own, let alone hunting the images.

I vote fox.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.
