Cool report Kraken!! Sad to see beautiful fish like these in waters with so much trash!! Very noble and cool of ya to keep your local waters as clean as possible. I hope others see what ya do there and become a good example as yourself. Wtg on the trash, and especially on the trout!!

nothing escapes the long reach of the Kraken.
that stretch of the SJR used to have swarms of crawdads. Most of them were bright red and the occasional bright blue. They were over harvested in the early 90s and still havnt recovered. Nice work rescuing that one and being the loyal son of the san juaquin.

I went for another full SJR trip on 3.5.2011 and had a good paddle. I had a lot of plans on how I was going to work the river, but an increase in the dam release by 400cfs changed all that. I was constantly bring back grass/twigs that were once part of the bank and now were underwater. Also, there was a ton of debris in the water that had broken lose and was constantly fouling the lures. So lets just say a lot of work went into the day and not much fish to show for it. Thus a trash post.

After about 3 hours of no fish I started to "clean." And the theme for the day became clear, picking up bank fisherman's trash. Pretty sad someone from my hobby is adding to the river trash, but it happens. I didn't have one big hall this time, just a pile here and there and the boat was full.

I had a cool encounter with a beaver and I paralleled him for a while. I kept getting closer trying to get a better pic, but some local neighbors didn't like it. They started saying, "look out for the beaver, don't go over by the beaver, don't you hurt that beaver!" Like what am I going to do to a beaver, they could see my camera in hand? Anyway, I want to keep good relations with the folks on the river so I moved on.

About 2/3 in I did finally get a nice fish. Using a blue/silver Kastmaster I got in a pretty trout, this one was about 17" (they keep getting bigger).   :kick   So a long trip, good load of PB jars and one nice fish to make it all worth while. Hopefully, one of these days I'll catch enough fish for a real report!

Great job guys.

I have always picked up trash at my local spots (Clementine & AR), but I tend not to pick up trash elsewhere.  Maybe it is time to start.

Wish I'd taken pictures of the trash I picked up at CL over the weekend.  Not a ton but at least a 1/2 dozen bottles.

Way to go guys,,,   Thank You !

Seems like we don't even make a dent in the problems sometimes, but every litterbit helps.

Keep pluggin at it.

Maybe someday when we're not all out fishing we could get together as  a group effort and work on one specific river... potluck afterwards.    I'll bring the homebrew.

My wife actually takes all the trash and junk I collect and tries to make art with it. We're working on a 5' tall Jamaican guy made completely out of flotsam and trash I collect while out 'yakking it up.

When she gets her kayak she will probably be right there with me picking up trash, she already walks the banks and does it.

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Well, the San Joaquin River has finally come down to a safe level and I went out for a morning trip (7-17-11). I put in at the Sportsman's Club in Fresno and headed up river. I got to my first rapids and went to work. I quickly had that fantastic feeling of the tap tap tap on my line and I was working the first trout of the day. Unfortunately, he got off shortly after. Not too long after I had another who I got all the way to the boat then he too got off. I checked out my lure and my swivel/clip broke at the swivel.   :smt102   Not my morning, but I was having a great time on the water anyway. As I continued to work this area I had some visitors in a raccoon and her three fuzzy babies (not a great pic unfortunately). I fished another four hours and had two more hookups, but only got one solid fish to the boat.

I was able to do some river cleaning, but after the huge release I think most of the trash got flushed down the river or buried in the debris on the banks. So most of the stuff I did find was really old cans that got upturned by large flows. I got one steel Pepsi can that has to be +25 years old and a pitted Rapala lure that's seen better days.

So not much trash this time thankfully, but I was able to clean a bit and have another solid day on the water.

strong work as usual. clearly the bud/coors trend is still going strong.
its good to see the flows are finally reasonable. lets get out the calenders and put something in the books.
