We did ok in Bakersfield but first got chased off a beautiful black eyed pea patch and field by a farm hand.
It was not posted and scouted nicely the week before.  Dove started flying late but just when the fun started,
we had to reset 15 miles north.  This new spot rocked on a corner of almonds and open field.
Anyone else hit it?
Hope you did well.   :smt006
I am sending you out as sheep among wolves.

I went out today with my brother, father, cousin and about 30 other guys. We hunted in a freshly-cut sunflower field outside merced at joseph gallo's bear creek ranch. The place was thick with doves. Everybody limited out by 7:30am. Then they fed us a big bomber breakfast while the farmworkers plucked and cleaned our doves. Them Gallos really know how to put on a great hunt !!

Awesome opener, private ranch in Shasta Co w/ limits all around as fast as you could get the shells in.  Hope to make it back out this weekend for a few more rounds.

Don't you have to have written permission from land owner to go on to the property, posted or not?

The gallo operation sounds awesome.

Yep Brian, private property requires written permission, posted or not.

When everyone in the office found out I was taking the day off to shoot doves I can't tell ya how many times people would ask "how can you shoot those poor little birds?"...just passed out some leftovers and have managed to convert everyone of them!  Delicious little critters (but isn't everything when wrapped in bacon!).

Bigfoot, I have to work in Chico one day next week so I might be able to swing an evening shoot...I just don't really know of any spots down there.

I would to get out next week also. I have a customer with 600 acres of rice. I don't know the condition of his property right now though.(flooded still?) Also, I've seen a lot of birds in the Oroville wildlife area while bass fishing. A lot of area to cover there. If you want to hook up post it and we can meet. I'll talk to the farmer about his prop too. I've got 1 little old lady customer in Chico that has orchards, but I never talked to her about hunting. I guess I could.

Yes I am bringing some to Cat Ryan!  I will make a few shees-ka-bobs with pineapple, mushrooms, and onion all marinated in Soyvay Teriyaki sauce.  Good times!
I'm going way South near the Salton Sea tomorrow for the evening shoot and the morning express.

That is a wild air rifle video Mooch!  Dang!

Kayakjack, that Gallo place sounds crazy good.

The place I am headed tomorrow is legondary for swarms of the little filet mingon with wings.
I just got a new camera and will attempt to document some fun youtube fotogage for yall.  :smt007

I talked to a guy today at the Oroville afterbay wildlife area who was headed out to hunt this eve. He told me the area that we were at had been hit pretty heavy. west area was more actively being shot. We were on the east side. While I was catching nice bass I heard a lot of shooting all around me. I assume there are still a lot of doves in the area.

Sorry for missing the updates on this thread, my work plans changed so I didn't make it down last week.  Matter of fact I haven't even made it back out to the field for any more shooting...bummer, we still have birds around too.

600 acres of rice, man that's gotta hold some waterfowl!
