I'm really glad that only the kayak and some equipment got damaged and that adam seemed to have come out of the incident relatively un-scathed.  Based on what has been said, I'm not sure that I would have done as well in the same circumstances.

In terms of avoiding bean, do you think that an attack like this increases the probability of another attack?  Not that I think that people should immediately take their kayaks out and fish bean, but I was wondering what the theory was regarding avoiding an area after such an incident.  I would be interested to hear people's opinion regarding this.

I jUst got back from Adams house. he is doig well. He's got gashes in his booties and sandals, kayak and paddle, but not a scratch on his feet. He did manage to barely skim some on the skin of his leg, lucky man. He is dealing with "family, friends, fans and media" in that order  :smt003 I got some pix for you guys. and a OTW video. Im not posting the vid till i talk to mooch about some copyright issues.  :smt002 Scary day OTW I will never forget Adams Voice On the VHF I will have nightmares about his calm, cool, Panicked, I just saw my life flash before my eyes tone in his voice. He Thanx the Lost sardine and his buddy(sorry were bad with names) for being the first to the scene of the crime.

Maybe the shark wasn't a Raiders fan?  :smt005

looks like Adam will be joining Dan (Dan964) in the most exclusive club called "The TOP WATER LURES" of NCKA  :smt002 But in all honesty, I'm glad our buddy dodged the bullet  :smt045

One thing similar to the attack or encounter (or whatever the experts describe the incident) that both Dan and Adam had is that they were both alone and far away from the rest of the crew.....something to think about?
I'm hoping the shark experts of the world can chime in and enlighten us a bit more  :smt001

Dan and Adam were in 50 FOW. (I originally posted 20 to 30 FOW but was later corrected by Adam)

Dan had a 16 foot red hobie adventure and Adam was on a yellow 13-foot Ocean Kayak Prowler.

Dan was hit on July 21, 2007 and Adam on Aug 14, 2010.

Kayaker attacked by great white shark
Monday, August 02, 2010
orange county news

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- A local kayaker is speaking out after a great white shark goes on the attack.

Duane Strosaker said he was five miles off Gaviota State Park when the 15-foot shark rose out of the water and bit down on his tiny boat.

"It's head was huge and it bit down and it held onto me for about 10 to 15 seconds," he said. "I was actually screaming like a little girl."

Strosaker wasn't hurt in the attack, but his kayak suffered a few puncture wounds.

Those are some nasty scratches on your yak fishunter! Glad your yak took most of the abuse. That has to be every yak fishermans worst nightmare. We all know its a possibility, but one we will never have to experience first hand. Hope you get it out of your head asap so you can get back to doing what you do well, catching fish!
take care, aka-Kimo
