Perch from a kayak?
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:27:23 am »
So for most of my fishing life, i've been more of a freshwater fly fisher... i have played around a few times in the ocean but it has been pretty limited.  I have managed to catch a few perch from shore before kayaking days, but it does sound like a lot of fun to track down and fish for some red tail from my kayak... any hints, tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated...

thanks....

I've always wanted to do this myself...I'm thinking of using my bass rod to target 'em. I'd try casting a small castmaster or use a small jighead and pin some small gulp plastics on 'em. Should be a hoot! Anyway, good luck to you and welcome to the site!

yeah, i haven't even had a whole lot of luck from shore with perch, being that i'm a fly fisherman, i still haven't figured out the patterns of perch (if there is one)... i'm in the northern humboldt area, and i know a lot of them get caught here.  the ones i have caught feel more like dragging in a weight than fighting a fish... i just think it would be fun to have something to fish for with a short drive...

thanks for the welcome mooch

I have a friend that uses his 7foot bass rod tippedwith squid to catch surf perch.  weight is 14 to 17 inches from the bait.
The more the merrier.

I and my dog need a fishing trip rery soon.
