I'll bet the yaks turn up somewhere.

I'm betting within a 3 sq block radius.  I'd be cruising the blocks on my bike looking for the driveway thats got a silver explorer and white honda parked out front.

Gotta be someone who lives in complex, or, (just a hunch), has a g/f there.

That sucks, good pics tho, get the law involved too, did you have them with hatches and drives on? I never leave mine with the hatches or seat on, it will deter a pro thief as then he has to buy new ones for a quick sell. Good luck on the yak-hunt.

The Hobie Quest is a paddling kayak with no mirrage drive option.

More likely the suv was borrowed from Mommy to do this crime.  This sucks.  I hope you can get them back and your enhancing of the photos does in fact work out for you.  I'd also talk to the complex peeps about maybe sharpening up the focus?  What good does the video do if no one can see what the hell is going on!
Granted this video is better than having none at all, but C'mon with todays technology and cameras that car's license should have been completly readable!

Thieving Bastards, lets hope they get what's coming to them. I hope that you get your yaks back, I wish you luck, and hope that they go to jail, and get their balls stomped off.

Thanks guys.
Woke up angry again today though. So tough not seeing my kayaks there when I get in my car.
No Renters Insurance due to budget cuts.
Both kayaks are Hobie Quests. No pedal drive. They both have FF transducers gooped to the inside hull and mounting brackets on the front deck. Even if they remove the transducers, there would still be holes on the deck for where the wiring came through. The red one has a flush mount in the front and the yellow one has a scotty type mounting ball in the cup holder.
Both kayaks have deck mounted perko plugs and switches behind the seat. The yellow one had a leak in the stearn and was repaired with plastic a little sloppily right on the point. The red one also has black measurement marking lines along the starboard side up to 36".
I'm going to try to contact Hobie because on the red one I'm pretty sure I filled out the warranty card with the serial #, and sent it in.
I have the video and the police told me that detectives will contact me next week and take the video to their CAD department. I can only hope.
Has anyone seen the commercial for Motorola, where Firemen run the country? Well, I think they need to make a new one with Kayak Fishermen running the country. You guys are great! Thanks again!

I am so sorry for your loss,Tell everyone around the neighborhood about what happened to stir the shi! and you might get some info even though the pics are not the greatest, the bastards who took the yaks don't know it and are probably pretty nervous about the attention it will generate.Post copies of the pics around town and offer a reward for info leading to the recovery of the yaks, can't hurt your chances and lets others know that they could be next. :smt013

Additionally, you should start a social media blitzkrieg.  With these photos and your supporting documentation, your bound to connect with someone who knows someone who knows someone who posted some incriminating bs to their FB or twitter account.  PM me if you don't know what I mean by "social media".  I'm growing increasingly familiar with it b/c I'm usually on the ass end of them lately at work lol

Looks like a rental. Check to see if the local Hertz/Enterprise rents 08-2010 Explorers in that color. You want to give the police as much ammo/info as possible.

Charlie, I'm truly sorry to hear your loss. I actually had a dream (more a nightmare) last night that someone had stolen my kayak! I was so upset and sad that my yak was gone. The whole dream felt SO REAL! I must have had this dream after reading your post last night.

I hope that we can find your stolen goods. I will be keeping my eye out, and please let us know any new info.

And Ryan, that is so gracious of you to offer lending Charlie your extra yak!! :D

Just a thought Charlie, if the vehicle used was newly purchased, couldn't you contact the local car dealers (with help of police) and get a list of people who have recently purchased that specific model/color?  That might slim down the search a bit.

Best of luck on recovering them - I will keep an eye on CL down on Central Coast

Man that's bad, and in broad daylight. I feel for you. Cops need to get on it before next week, the comment about social networking is great. The more people looking better the odds. I keep mine kayak behind a locked gate locked to my wife's and I'm still paranoid they'll be stolen. Lotta people looking for what they see as a fast buck these days.
