I am planning on fishing Saturday.  Am thinking of going north of the Dove - probably EKG.  I won't be launching at the bean, but will be fishing about a mile+ south of it.  Anyone interested?  Probably launch between 7 and 7:30.

I also might go on a Friday trip with Bill.  This would be a bit of an adventure - same coast, but different spot - PM me if you are interested in that one.  Not your normal hookup.

I might be able to make it out to the saturday hookup, but unlikely to make the friday hookup as I will be just returning from a family vacation in pebble beach on friday.  I'll PM you friday afternoon if I am unable to make it on saturday.  Hopefully, I'll be able to make it and join you guys out on the water.

Hi. Is the launch easy? I've launched out of the princeton harbor and fished at gimme shelter iii. If a rookie is welcome, I would love to join. Please PM me with details. Thanks.

I'm the wrong person to ask about the launch, because my difficulty judgement is permanently impaired (e.g., I think everything is easy until I pearl on a steep face and do the aerial beach land).  I would guess that if you haven't had a surf launch/landing class or done it a few times, you will want to pass - but ask Bink and FishingAddict - they've both gone - PM them for their perspective.

What you can do to get used to that area is fish Pigeon Point on the lee side - you can post a hookup or respond to one one here.  I recommend doing the beach launch further south of the lighthouse - it puts you on the fish faster and I've found it to be a decent place to practice your surf zone skills.  The lighthouse launch won't do much for your surf skills.  Just don't spend too much time in the water there...  PM me if you want more details - I might be able to go with you this summer if you want.

I strongly suggest you take a Surf Zone class at MBK, I think Kayak Connection also offers it.  Also have the ability and confidence to perform self rescue. Self rescue looks easy on videos but it takes practice.

Launch w/ the guys at Bean.  Make sure you have wet or dry suit in case you take a swim.

Forecast looks like it will be an easy launch.

The only time I know that it's an easy launch is when I'm sitting outside the surf zone with dry hair!  But then I start thinking about the landing.

In  my experience the launches are usually "easy", it's the landings that are painful  :smt002

That's where the 'stern-first' technique kicks butt...it's like launching all over again, but in reverse.  Sort of.

Bean is not a good place for beginners, those nice days makes it look easy but it can be very unforgiving and it could very well put others at risk as well, my 2 cents... plenty of time to learn the ropes and there are plenty of resources here....good luck and we'lle see you out there next year!
