With our local rockfish season opening this Sunday. I had a couple of what are called Jax Jigs in a small 2.5oz size that are no longer made and probably my most productive lure for rockfish and ling cod I have used.  I had one left so decided to bust out some Bondo and make a mold.
Pored these and just rough painted with Krylon and used a clear coat.
I was not worried about perfection in paint as these will more then likely get hung up on rocks or the reefs anyway.
These two colors have been my most productive, scrambled egg and one I call vermilion (orange back, copper belly).

Can't wait till Sunday to give em a go!

Love the scrambled egg color, I always think of those as the "white scampi" of rockfish irons.

Man, you're always cookin up some homemade stuff! That's pretty cool. Maybe add some glow tape for the murky San Mateo coastline? I have heard of Jax jigs, but never really seen one. They look kinda like Tadys.

Thanks all-

I love doing the homemade stuff, it keeps me sane when I can't fish.  :smt002
the Jax are kind of like a Tady only they are poured with 100% lead to get a smaller yet heavier bait.  Tady uses a lead/tin mix (I am actually considering getting another melting pot just so i can mess around with Tady type lures).

I was wondering if one could be poured out of a liquid plastic with a lead core? I'm not into pouring lead.

SH....did you use a wire form in the mold to back up the eyes?  I've had a couple heartbreakers due to to the jig breaking at the eye....they were lead/tin though, probably more prone to cracking.  I'll be whipping my new mold up soon, got a couple ideas.  :smt001

No wire, poured them exactly like Jax does.  100% lead and drill holes for the split rings.  I gotta say, they are solid and I feel there is no way they are gonna break.  (I know, never say never).
