On the Fish sniffer forum today I read where this guy witnessed, and took pictures of two individuals snagging strippers with only huge treble hooks and weighted hooks, he posted these pictures for all too see, but didn't call Cal-tip.

If there was ever a reason to call a violation in it was then, these two guys had one over 40 inch and a lot more around 30 inches, and told the witness how easy it was.

I told him it was not too late to report what he had seen to Cal-tip and at least they might send someone to investigate and might catch them or their friend, in the act, because you know as well as I do they were telling their friends how easy it was.

We have Cal-Tip for a reason and if we don't use it whats the point, and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

This took place in the Clifton forbay area yesterday. :smt013

Just a reminder to report these idiots to help protect our fisheries

I'm not familiar with the regs with respect to what your post entails.  Can you detail what the exact nature of the violation is?  thx.

The fishing regulations state that is against the law to snag any game fish not unlike people snagging Salmon, it is unlawful to keep any fish that is snagged even by accident, but these guys were not fishing but were doing this on purpose.
If this were not illegal our fisheries would be decimated in no time at all.

that's what I was going to say.

Might check the regs carefully.  I researched last year about guys snagging WSB, even published in my weekly report that it is illegal.  I found out that it is not illegal.  Think you have to see the specific language in the regs for the specific fish...."take voluntarily by mouth..." or some such.

If you look into it carefuly, maybe you can post the results on this thread?

Ik'd check but this is a 'fly-by' reply haha gota get back to work.

Snagging is illegal in freshwater for all game fish, period.

In the salt, snagging is illegal of stripers, salmon, sturgeon and a few other fish species.

Yep, the guy took one picture where it showed a nice stripper snagged in the tail and he was dragging it over the rocks looked like. They were litterly ripping the trebles through the fish trying to snag them.

Now, these two weren't home less, or starving to death, it shows one of them with a cell phone hanging from his belt.
Not that that would make it legal to do, but we all are suppose to play by the same rules aren't we?  :smt012

I think it's a matter of education.  it's the first time i've ever heard of it, so I'm proof that we need to educate people out there.  Of course, if you're doing it knowingly, then go get'em Dano!

Thanks Ben.

I try not to pass judgement when I'm not present, but that doesn't look good.

And why make the post and big fuss if you're not going to do anything about it? :smt013  :smt011
