Pat, I see your point for sure, but when was the last time you tried to catch a spastic 17-year old?

Rather than risk a sprained ankle or tear in my pants, I'd loose the hounds on him.

Several Phillies placed gloves over their faces and appeared to be stifling laughter at the wild scene.

This seems funny at first, but then i got to thinking of further implications.  imagine that you are a millionaire ball player in a hostile venue.  You simply can't have people running onto the field for any reason.  Athletes need protection from jackasses and maniacs who would like nothing more than to get on TV by hurting a player.  Just think monica seles stabbing, or eddy merckx in the '75 TdF.

with that, i'd say jack up the incapacitating voltage to deter copycats.

wow, an Eddy Merckx reference - I'm impressed.  :smt004

I generally agree with what you're saying, too. In this age of craziness, this kind of stuff can't be taken too lightly. Personally, I think once you cross that line and jump onto the field, you're fair game.

That said, in this case, I think by the time they tazed the guy it was fairly obvious he was just a dumb@ss and not too much of a threat, so a simple tackle would've sufficed - the guy was was already almost surrounded but the big boy security guy was obviously havin' a little trouble keeping up with him and really wanted to use his toy.

This kid getting tazed is just a tax on his stupidity.  Are we really asking security guards at venues of over 20k people to identify, assess, and process risk to others/themselves in a big venue before using non-lethal force?  Against someone who is at best an idiot and at worst a threat to personal safety?

Two twenty plus year old incidents hardly constitutes a real public threat. :smt002
