It's looking like Maui!
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:11:33 pm »
Just wanted to post a head's up that I'm moving to Maui middle of April.  Of course I'll be bringing my kayak with me.  I'll probabley check out aquahunter.net while I'm at it.  I havn't been doing the net thing too much recently, lots of work stuff going on.

I'm really looking forward to meeting anyone on Maui who is passionate about kayak fishing and spearfishing.  John aka. JTF

Make contact with Jesse (Mr Snuffalupagas) He's a San Mateo native jessevj@hotmail.com. He lives in Kihei and usually fishes out of Makena Landing. He guided me there in October. I'm sure he would be glad to introduce you to the local methods. Tell him Kirk said hello!
If you are shipping over your Yak, you might consider buying a second Yak, as they are hard to come by over there and fishing specific Yaks are in demand. Hobies are popular -no Kelp to worry about - and adding a sail kit is common, to help fight the trade winds.
In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

There are some really cool guys in Maui on Aqua hunters.  I think mini-bus-driver and his friend (forgot the avatar name) seem to be pretty cool.  Good luck have lots of fun.  Andy

Thanks guys, I'm so pumped.

I was wondering, fuzz, you might be able to help me with this, do you freedive out there with a weight belt and if so how much?  I was thinking 10 to 12 lbs.  Seems like most guys wouldn't wear one.

Sounds good John! Warm water, diving, kayakfishing for mahi-mahi. Damn. I hope you get a big place or at least a huge yard for tents.
