Im kind of all over the board with what I listen to, tho usually of the metal/hard rock type.   Lately its been Finnish and euro metal bands like COF, Nightwish and HIM, toss in Skynyrds new cd that just kicks ass, and an alt rock band out of LA called Nico Vega and you have it.   :smt004

Gotta give up some props for P-FUNK!.. one of my all time favorite guitar solo songs is Maggot Brain by funkadelic..  Eddie Hazel was an amazing player.

I went about 15 years after high school without going to concerts and started going again 4 or 5 years ago. I'm probably done now.

In the last few years I saw Pennywise, Rush, Sevendust, Disturbed, Social Distortion and the Circle Jerks (they were horrible).
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

words to live by from Mike Damone: First of all Rat, you never let on how much you like a girl. "Oh, Debbie. Hi." Two, you always call the shots. "Kiss me. You won't regret it." Now three, act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?" Four, when ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It's a classy move. "Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice." And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.

Good thread idea...

I grew up listening to my dad's record collection, literally hours and hours every day hooked to them big ass old headphones, lost in my own world:  Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, all the Woodstock bands, Johnny Cash and the other classics laid the foundation.  Also had an antique RCA 78 player so there was some Bing Crosby and that sorta stuff mixed in...  Sons of the Pioneers, Kingston Trio...

First record I bought was a Beatles "Best Of"...

Middle School, I was into Van Halen, AC/DC, Def Leppard... the first "current" music I listened to...   the rich kids all liked Duran Duran and we hated them...

High School, enter hip hop and more:  early Metallica, GnR, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, the Smithereens, Ramones, Minutemen, Butthole Surfers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, (back when them being on the radio was inconceivable), Primus..

Currently I pretty much love ANY type of music so long as it's not bullcrap...  I like the originals...

-The Who
-Johnny Cash
-All classic country, (all three Hanks, ET, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, (pre Heehaw!)
-Run DMC, (they rapped about clothes and their skills instead of bitches, money and guns)
-Cake
-The Kinks
-Classical (while driving)
-Sublime

Anything with heart.

Good thread.  I grew up skating and fishing with three other very close friends.  We listened to so much Primus I can't even remember anything else.  We fished before school and skated after practically every day of the week in high school.  Weekends were for camping and fishing.  I never even made it to party in high school I was fishing so much.  I listen to a lot of country now.  Seems like all the Hawaiian friends I had were always listening to county and I found myself liking it after hating county my whole life.

The 1st 45's I actually bought were things like The Hermans Hermits. Dave Clark 5( bits and pieces). The Beatles Rubber Soul album. Now I like Dave Alvin, Steve Earle, John Prine, Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Bonnie Raitt,Richard Thompson,Los Straightjackets,Dick Dale,Chuck Prophet. When I want the old stuff to sing to loud, its old U-2, Van Halen, Led Zep, Derek and the Dominoes, Allman Bros, Grand Funk Railroad, Boston,. Oh wait, I need to take another memory pill. :smt044 :smt044

Adam, we used to go down to the clubhouse on High St. and wait for the meeting to get over so we could hear them start their bikes. We had a skewed sense of heroes back then, Terry the Tramp lived down the street from us by Leimert Blvd. I was arrested with 2 kilos of mexican dope when I was 16 in Oakland. Music and drugs were our life. I got smart and moved to Novato in 1970 to live with my Dad. We made it dude.

My dad had classical in the house when I was growing up, my mom has a tin ear, but she had a Crosby Stills and Nash album that might have been the first popular music I was aware of, along with "Sugar" by the Archies and Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie.
When I was in High School Band I heard Bachman Turner Overdrive 4 Wheel Drive and fell under the spell of heavy guitars. Not long after that, I heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio, which my mom thought was the devil's music. Skynyrd was probably my primary drinking band...then I got job at a record store and New Wave - Talking Heads, Blondie, Psychedelic Furs, Captain Beefheart. Now I'm old and I still love hard rock. I'm currently into Bumblefoot, the new Living Colour, Paul Gilbert. I also love the fusion Jazz\rock stuff - Jeff Beck, Holdsworth, RTF. In the last year, I'd say the top disks for me are Jonas Hellborg (Art Metal),  John 5 (Songs for Sanity) the Amsterdam Klezmer Band (Katakofti), The Hives (Barely Legal). The last few concerts were Leo Kottke at the Yoshi's, David Byrne at the Greek, and Jeff Beck at the Fox. I definitely need music to get me through. I just spent almost a year out of work, and now I need to adjust because I can't listen during the day...

around the house was The Man in Black, elvis, and too many folk singers for me to remember (my parents were Beats). early high school was all about the tubes, adolescents, black flag...
But i really grew up hanging with a bunch of climbers-- and that was all zeppelin, who, kinks, dusted with Clash and some AC/DC for the crazy night bouldering sessions. Now i've got a simply mad sprinkling- still Johnny Cash, elvis, REM, VH, clash, but add ABBA, Beyonce, Michelle shocked, tubes, dick dale, ...nancy griffith?...dang there's some weird crap on this thing

My tastes have been very diverse over the years.

Grew up with the British Invasion: Beatles, Stones, Zepp, Who, Cream, etc.

Went through a progressive Jazz phase: Weather Report, Return to Forever, Jeff Beck, Stanley Clarke.

Went through a Blues phase: B.B. King, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, etc.

Grunge phase: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden.

New Grass phase: Alison Krauss/Union Station, New Grass Revival, Bela Fleck/Flectones, Leftover Salmon

Americana phase: Bruce Hornsby, Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams.

Many, many others!

Have we all forgot the late great,  STEVIE RAY VAUGHN ?

First concert: Iron Butterfly (In a godda da vida baby)

Last concert: The Flecktones
