I spent the past thirteen years working for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. Unfortunately I've been off work for the past year and a half because of an injury...Now I spend my days at home with my wife and kids, and I got to say I'm a better man for it. I spent a lot of time working sixteen hour days...but no more.

Now I'm an Executive Chore Boy, kids Taxi and on call Man Whore....

I'm living the dream.

I work as a Pest Control Adviser specializing in vegetable crops in the Salinas Valley. Half of the acreage I manage is organic.  We release beneficial insects and plant beneficial insectary hedgerows to help manage the pest populations in the organic crops. I also manage a small pesticide application business in Soledad.

In addition to the PCA work,  In 2009 my wife and I started testing vegetable soils for nitrate levels.  We would both collect soil samples from our growers fields and run the tests nightly on our kitchen counter.  This area of our business has taken off.  We now have 5 seasonal employees and a lab in Soledad that we use to run the soil tests.  I have recently passed an intentional exam to become a Certified Crop Adviser (professional certification in Agronomy)

I have a really cool job.  We are working to reduce nitrate loading to surface and ground water and saving vegetable growers money by reducing their fertilizer inputs.  The wife is currently in charge of our 11.5 month old twin daughters Sophia and Marguerite.  Life is good.

This is a very cool thread.  I moved to Santa Cruz from Mesa Arizona in May of 2011.  I work for the USGS as a hydrologic technician.  Our office is one of about eight field offices in California.  We operate 46 real-time  stream flow  gages from Halfmoon Bay to Paso Robles.  When I’m not wearing waders at work, I’m wearing a wetsuit on the yak.  Now if only I can convince them to let conduct “fish samples” at work, I’d be set!

Funny shit, my wife and I moved out to Goodyear Az from Santa Cruz a couple of years back. After about a year we headed back here to Santa Cruz. See you around.
